Hi,

I am male, 49 and have just started taking one centrum tablet a day for multi-vitamins and micro nutrients.

Just wanted to know if that is enough or I need to monitor anything else. I am monitoring Calories ONLY right now.

Thanks

    A recent study on Vitamin and supplemental use revealed that it leads to shorter lifespans than those who DON'T take vitamins. Possibly because users tend to neglect their diets, hoping the pills will compensate for poor nutrition. Also, these pills are not FDA regulated, so what you get in the pill doesn't correspond to what is on the label, as discovered with random testing where 8 out of 10 brands had dangerous levels of iron and deficient in other minerals.

    The bottom line is, nothing is better than getting vitamins and nutrients straight from the source: unprocessed fruits, vegetables, fish etc. So skip the microwave dinners and focus on eating healthy options.

    If a doctor prescribed you these vitamins, then continue taking them but still maintain a healthy diet. It will never be a substitute for keeping junk food in your diet.

    Correlation != Causation

    But the advice you offer is still good. Never use a supplement to take the place of nutrition. Use them to help offset deficiencies you may have while still eating healthy foods. Should really be called complements instead.
