I'm a Yoga junkie! Anyone else who loves Yoga, share some poses, or just your benefits from Yoga in general! It makes my stress go away, and even though I'm not skinny I feel great in my own body from it. Thanks for sharin!

I just started doing yoga a few weeks ago. I would love to hear what everyone says.0

My favorite is the sun-salutation, it is a flow from standing and looking towards the sun, down to the ground and finishing in upward dog after a series of poses...i love it because it isn't staying in one position, it is a 'flow' and it just makes me feel so good!0

Check out the seal! You might have to google it, but its a good one. Also, different poses have different benefits to your body like lubricating joints, etc. Google moves and their benefits you'll be surprised!0

I've been practicing yoga off and on for a couple of years now. I started with Moksha yoga (a form of hot yoga) a series which I have always loved for it's ability to be both envigorating and relaxing, and the killer sweat you work up that leaves you feeling detoxified. Recently, however, I've become a huge fan of yin yoga, which is comprised of postures that are often supported and held for a long time--Paul Grilley's DVD and books on the subject are just amazing. I enjoy it for it's deep releases and the way it shifts me into a state of zenlike relaxation.
Favourite postures? Floor bow, upward facing bow, camel pose--any deep backbend really. Love how it opens up my heart centre and in general just makes me feel like I've just taken a deep, cleansing breath. I also love hip openers like thread the needle and any variation of pigeon. I like toppling tree and warrior 3 for their challenging balance aspects, and because they help build strength and stability in my weak ankles.0 -
I just bought my first yoga dvd and yoga equipment/gear, whatever it is. I'm super excited about trying it! I've never ever tried it before but have always heard some really great things about it!0

I have been attending yoga classes since June. I went 3 times a week in the summer and now I go once a week because it's the only class offered after 5 p.m. :grumble:
I like yoga because it challenges me. I am naturally uncoordinated and ungraceful, and I can tell a big difference in my coordination and strength since I first started. My yoga instructor said she can tell, too.
My favorites are all the warriors, pigeon, dancer's pose, and eagle pose.0 -
I'm a yoga teacher and have practiced for about 9 years. I mostly study the Anusara and Iyengar forms. You can see some of my favorite poses in my pictures. I love dancer (natarajasana), half moon (ardha chandrasana), and handstand.
Favorite beginner dvd: Yoga for Weight Loss by Suzanne Deason. Favorite all around: Rodney Yee.
Seal pose is also called Cobra or Sphinx depending on how it's done (elbows down = Sphinx, elbows up = cobra or bhujangasana).

Do you suggest any books? I really want to learn more than just the poses and I was thinking of looking into a couple of books.0 -
Do you suggest any books? I really want to learn more than just the poses and I was thinking of looking into a couple of books.
For poses:
Well, the yoga bible is "Light on Yoga" by BKS Iyengar. It has about every pose you'll see - though, there's not a whole lot of instruction. If it has "Iyengar" in the title, it's probably a pretty detailed book. Look for ones with lots of pictures. Rodney Yee's book "Moving Towards Balance" - looks pretty good, though I don't own it.
For all else:
Well, "Light on Life" is a good all around book, but it's a little hard to read. There really are a ton out there. I don't read much philosophy, so I can't help you really. I would suggest the library to get started. You might try some famous yogis first: Iynegar (Geeta and BKS), T. K. V. Desikachar, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois , David Swenson, Donna Farhi, Judith Hanson Lasater, Gary Kraftsow, Nischala Joy Devi, Beryl Bender Birch, Linda Sparrow, the list could go on.
Hope that helps.0
