training?

anyone out there who runs in races? i want to know how to get started. i'd like to run races. do i need a trainer? what kind of excersizes would be good to get me in shape? any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Check out Couch to 5k (c25k). It's a program that uses a walk/run hybrid to get you to a 30 minute run in eight weeks. There are apps for most major smart phone OSes, pod casts, and in a fit of low tech scariness you can even printout regular paper that tells you what to do. It's generally considered the best combo of safe, effective and fast for getting ready for your first 5k race.
