Cravings: lack of will power or something it needs?

Hi all!
I think I need motivation or well I'm not sure?! I've been vege for many years and always found any food cravings to be linked with dietary deficiencies ( ie cravings for foods I don't even like that on reflection contain things I haven't fed my body for a while)
But since starting mfp and mostly sticking ( theres been a few days off) to a very low cal intake (the controversial mfp 1200 cals) I have found myself craving ( sometimes to the point of feeling a little off colour) sugary foods. I'm not a sugar addict at all normally, I don't even like chocolate but I've even been craving that -badly. So realistically is it just the knowledge that I can't have it breaking my motivation or is it common on low cal diets for the body to crave stuff because it needs it? I think it's prob the former but has anyone else been feeling this?
