Body fat percentage and ideal weight

According to DEXA I sould have around 39% of body fat. Technically I am in between overweight and obese. My doc told me that I should aim at a weight around 72-75 kg that for most charts etc is overweight and a body fat of 27%-29%.
Any thoughts on this?

Don't worry about this stuff for a while and just eat right?

Listen to your doctor. Maybe he is giving you your first goal instead of such a big number. Id like to also add I think the charts are unrealistic. Everyone holds weight differently. Just go with the flow and do what you are comfortable with. :)

Start out with small goals and worry about the big one at the end. I've seen ppl set up there goals to be too big and failed. Small goals equals small accomplishment that will lead to the big one! Best of luck on your journey!

Listen to your doctor. You can reassess your goals as you go. I got the opposite from my doctor - he set my goal to match my body frame so my goal was set at between 19 and 21%! (by the charts)

Here's a useful formula to calculate your goal weight based on desired BF%:

Goal weight = current lean body mass / (1 - desired BF fraction)

    Example:

If you weigh 200 lbs at 40% BF, your current LBM is 200 x 0.6 = 120 lbs

If you wanted to achieve 20% BF (while maintaining LBM) your goal weight is 120 / 0.8 = 150 lbs
  • Thank you all for your answers. I am currently eating well since 3 years ago or at least I try. I still have a problem with cheese but I love it too much :D I was just curios to see how do you report yourself to the whole idea of charts BMI ideal weight etc.
I want just to feel better.
