We're debating remodeling our only, small bathroom. We are having trouble deciding between keeping the bathtub, or going walk-in shower.

If you had to make an argument for one or the other - pic 1, with tub, or pic 2, without tub - which would it be & why?

    The walk in shower would be more practical.

    I have 3 baths in my place. The standard bathtub never gets used.

    The jacuzzi tub get used a few times a year.

    The walk in shower is used daily

    The walk in shower is more visibly appealing, however, I have to be able to take a bath. I love baths, so if I didn't have one I would freak.


    If you aren't a big bath fan, I'd go with the shower. Allover it looks better, and the walk-in provides a more streamlined look, enlarging the bathroom.

    If you love taking a bath though, take a hit on the aesthetics and go with the bath.

    Honestly, either one looks great to me. My bathroom is an effin shoe box.

    Really depends... do you ever soak in the tub to relax? We "have" a tub here but it's a very oddly shallow one so it's not worth it, might as well be a walk-in shower for all the good it does as a tub, but I really enjoy getting out to the rural property with the clawfoot tub with the back (opposite the taps / faucet) sloped perfectly for leaning on and relaxing. If you don't enjoy soaking in the tub might not be worth the hassle.

    I don't do baths. And my son is just starting to shower instead of baths. I prefer the shower, but a little worried about resale of a house with NO tub.

    You hit the nail on the head. You have to have a bathtub for resale.

    No tub would turn me off, big time. However, I know I'm in the minority. Do some research online. I think a walk in shower would actually up the resale value, if I remember correctly.

    Walk-in shower. It'll be used all the time.
    Unless you're a really big bath person and can afford a massive tub it's probably not worth it. We had a big tub put in at our last house and we used it occasionally, here at our new house it's just a standard size so we never use it.
    Our kids have showers, our toddlers we bathe on the floor of the shower in a big plastic tub.

    pretty much the same here...and I have two kids that like to play in...I mean...take baths.

    In my house the walk in showers get used the most......bathtubs rarely. Even my 5 and 8 year old kids prefer the shower over bath.

    I have a walk in shower, 2 seats, 2 shower heads, i LOVE it! I agree about the resale of a place with no tub though. it's SO much easier to bathe kids with a tub. Either way you go, opt for a hand held shower head... (EcoSpa brand is the best for... stuff.)

    Showers are "in" unless you have a big bathroom and do both. I think it depends if you plan on living there for a while because of resale value. I wouild do the shower if thats what you use and like and planned on staying there. You want your house for you, not for a potential buyer unless you think you may want to sell in the near future

    if you ever plan on selling go with the tub otherwise you take away resale value

    I am a huge bath person. My current studio has only a shower. I can make do but I love to soak in the tub and stretch out while I shave my legs.

    It all depends whether you prefer baths or showers.

    I have a bath every day. I don't like showers. So for me it'd be number 1. I also think number 1 is more visually appealing - a more traditional, balanced, calm look, and that is important to me in a bathroom, because I like to relax. But of course, if you're the kind who likes a quick shower, you're not going to necessarily want the calm, relaxed look. But my preferences are my preferences - I wouldn't automatically recommend them to anyone else, because everyone has different functional preferences.

    On the other hand, you can combine a bath and a shower. I have both in my home, and my bathroom is smaller than this. You just have a shower installed on the wall above the taps of the bath, and a curtain across the bath for when people shower. I have this because although I don't like showers, I know that most people do, so when I have overnight guests, it gives them the choice. It doesn't cost a lot more to have a shower with the bath.

    If it is the only bathroom you have, make sure you have a tub. When you go to sell the house in the future, not having a tub is a drawback. People with kids, want a tub to bathe them in. Not a shower.

    Do the shower. We have a bunch of bathrooms with both and our master has a Jacuzzi tub..never gets used..but the shower..all the time..do the shower!

    I don't take baths, but I do enjoy just soaking in a hot tub. It's very relaxing, so I would not like getting rid of mine.

    I think, in my opinion a full bath is a good selling feature and depends on what you use more, a tub or shower. If it were me, I would put in a full bath.

    I think the shower is prettier, but if you are a bath person then go with the bath for sure.

    I would do the stand up. Personally, I never take baths and when I do get around to it, the water just doesn't cover me right. Plus, I like my space when I'm showering.

    If it's the only bathroom in your home I would go with a tub.

    1: Kids. If you don't have them and are planning to and you plan on staying at your house now, not having a tub is a PAIN IN THE *kitten*!!!!
    2: Animals, i wash my dog in the bathtub because it's easier to contain her than trying to give her a bath outside. If I only had a shower, again, pain in the *kitten*!!
    3: I'm assuming you own your home. If so, think of the resale value. If you only have 1 bathroom and you get rid of the tub, not a whole lot of people are going to be interested in buying it so therefore you would lower the cost of your house. If you had more than 1 bathroom and kept a tub in 1, it would be fine. But seeing as you only have 1 bathroom, my suggestion is to go with the tub for all cases listed.

    I appreciate the input everyone! I did NOT think about bathing my fat dog! Tub stays. I think;-)
