Thanks to C25K, I ran my first 5K this afternoon! I ran it in 34:16! I even walked a few times (no more than 30 seconds each walk).. and it was freezing outside. But I finished with a great time!

Hehe! I definitely enjoyed the race. I guess my new addiction is running and racing. Maybe in a few years I will run a marathon!

About a year ago someone told me an aquaintence from HS was running a marathon and I remember saying out loud, "Not this guy, those people are nuts" Now, on the eve of my first 5K the thought is creeping into my mind that I'd like to try that too. What a difference a year makes.

    Again, Congrats on the 5K.

Congratulations! That is a great time. I'm still working on C25K but I can hardly wait for my first 5k (I'm thinking March or May).

Amen to that. I never understood how someone could actually enjoy running. And now I'm one of the crazies! When I transferred to my current work location, my new supervisor told me she was training for a marathon. I thought she was ABSOLUTELY INSANE. Now we sit and talk about running together. She has given me tips and she says I absolutely *have* to go for a half marathon at least. She says the feeling of all those feet hitting the ground at the same time at the starting line is amazing -- she says it's the best thing she's ever done (on her own) in her entire life.

  • Hi Stephanie,

Congratulations on the 5k! I see you are from S. Jersey. Is that where you ran it? I'm in northern Delaware and would like to run my first 5k this spring.

Hey there - I ran this one in south jersey. It is a winter series and pretty informal (no t-shirts, no numbers, just show up pay $5 and run for time). I am going to run a fancier one in Philly on April 17, 2010 - the 5K for Clean Air for the Clean Air Council.

Very nice. I saw that one JFK Parkway, I was wanting to start with something a little smaller. Also, my daughter goes to school on Logan Square. I don't want her to see me pass-out.

You can find other 5Ks by going to active.com and searching for them. There might be some closer to you. If you want to wait for a later one, I was going to do the 5K - Run for the Cure - which is in Philly in May. I am sure you would be fine. Are you training for a 5k now? If you haven't started training, I suggest the Couch to 5K program. It is really fantastic. And let me tell you, running with people is so motivating - you get a lot better times than on practice runs.
  • Thanks for that website. I have been training and I can run the distance on a treadmill. I'm just wondering about running it in those crowded race conditions. I'm sure I'll be fine, it's all in my head. Take care. Thanks again.

Buffet-- it is a head trip, but it's so empowering when you conquer it. I ran my first 5k in April and am running my 4th tomorrow-- totally cool being a part of the whole experience.

I'm in Jersey, too-- but up northwest, across the river from Easton, PA. Just wanted to give a shout out to my fellow Jersey peeps.

Woohoo Jersey! I wanted to do the Hangover 5K! I just love the name and would love a T-shirt with that on it. Too bad I'll be in NYS with family, or I would have road tripped to do it.

Thanks Marla and Steph, That's funny, I really do want one of the shirts. I do feel ready now, I just have a tendency to over prepare for things. That's why I enjoy running, you only have to worry about yourself. Have a great run today Marla!
