Low point of diet

Today I'm finding it really tough. No matter what I eat, I'm craving chocolate milk and macdonalds, although I have a stomach full of yoghurt and melon I still somehow feel "hungry".

If I give in to these cravings and enjoy something fattening, I know there's a risk I won't be able to get back on the calorie-counting wagon, and will gain weight again.

I've been on a reasonably unforgiving calorie restriction for 2 months - approx 1000 cals per day, with exercise on top of this 2-3 times per week. Although I have felt intermittently hungry it's always been sated by the next meal and it's not been too bad. I've lost 13kg in 2 months.

So I guess today is the worst day, I feel at risk of ruining everything. Some days you have highs, when you feel skinny or the scales go down, or wear smaller clothes, but I guess this is the flipside of that...

Wow not sure I could stick to 1000 cals and for me that isn't helpful. I do 1200 cals and most days am at or under. I generally do not eat my exercise cals. I have lost 9 lbs in the last 2 weeks but eating healthy. I also do sugar free chocolate pudding and a banana as a snack pretty much each night to cut the cravings. I have had mcdonalds twice in the last 2 weeks. Half a cheeseburger and half of a sausage mcmuffin. When I do this I really watch my sodium intake and my cals for the day. Sodium is usually the killer for me but I don't think I could stick to your routine. Good luck.

I don't know how many times I see this exact same topic. I guess I count myself lucky for researching before I just "went on a diet". I'll share with you a post that has helped me tremendously, and only once have I felt "hungry" following it.

Read that, in it's entirety. Follow it. You will loose weight and not be starving. If you give in to a craving, it's not over, just start again.

    Good luck.

I'm not sure how tall you are, or how much you weigh, but 1000 calories a day is way too little to exist on. This may be why your cravings are so bad. Mine are worse when I'm hungry. I started out at 1400 calories/day (I am 5'8" was 163, now 147 pounds) and I lost 5 pounds in the first 5 weeks, then could not lose any more, and I was starving all of the time!! My suggestion is to up your calories to about 1500/day, especially if you are exercising. And try skim chocolate milk. But NO McDonald's, it's garbage.

You don't have to lose 3-5 pounds per week, 1-2 pounds a week is just fine. Slow and steady wins the race. Hope this helps!

I see several issues with what you have written..

    1) 1000 calories is not enough unless you are doing it under close medical supervision. Exercising on top of that is making it even harder for your body to get what it needs.

    2) yogurt and melon can be rather carb heavy, and you burn through those rather quickly. You need some source of protein to keep you full. I ate 2 eggs, 3 slices of soy bacon and a greek yogurt for breakfast --310 calories, 11 carbs, 1fiber, and 27g of protein! Yesterday I ate at 9am and it was 2pm before I was ready for lunch.

if you are really truely craving something, have a tiny bit. If you want chocolate milk, make room for it in your macros and enjoy it! If you really really want McDonalds, go get a kids meal and savor it! depriving yourself makes *diet* a 4 letter word...enjoying your food in moderation makes it a tolerable lifestyle.

Well, it's not wonder you're craving stuff, you're only eating 1,000 calories.................... That's not good. You can't deny yourself, if you want McDonald's have some, want chocolate, have some. Just plan for it, and up your calories some.

I have to agree with the consensus. Add a couple hundred more calories to your day. It wont hurt you...honest. And yes you CAN have treats if you work them into your numbers. Plan ahead....write your food diary up ahead of time. Then, you can change things if you want to....cant change them after you have already eaten them. Good luck!

I agree with some of the others that you need to be eating more and also not deprive yourself of things you really want. A little bit of a craving here and there is not bad. This needs to be a way of life, not something you MAKE yourself do and feel terrible about. You've done a great job proving to yourself you can keep on a reduced calorie diet, now you know you have the restraint to go eat a small portion of something you crave.
  • Someone correct me if I am wrong but don't carbs make you crave unhealthy foods? I agree add a about 200 to 300 more good calorie items to your eating and this should subside...

I don't know what I can write that everyone else hasn't already...BALANCE is the key...sometimes, NOT always, but sometimes cravings can be your body's way of telling you it requires something. Have you added a multi-vitamin to your new lifestyle? I use Flintstone's Complete w/Iron, yes, the one for children. Any balanced multi-vitamin is good, do your research to choose the best one for you.

    Best to you.

I agree with the other posters about adding another 200 cals. I myself could not do the 1000 cal, I do 1200 and even somedays it is a challenge.
I "d think of asking myself if I could completely stay on the 1000 cal and if not maybe just try adding
    up to 200 cals.

Thank you everyone. I think youre right that the main issue now is wheter i can have small controlled amounts of the food I crave. AND not feel too guilty about it. (and still lose weight). i'll give it a try...
