How important are the NET calories?

Im trying to keep my calorie intake to the minimum. I have a strong will and im really never hungry.
For the past few days at the end of each day i was warned about going into starvation mode due to the low amount of daily calories.
My question is does that relate to net calories or the total i eat.
Today i went out and ate some fast food, but due to my exercising my NET is still under 1k, even tho the total is almost 2k.
Should i worry about the NET at all?

u should be concerned.
u want to NET what ever calories mfp sets u up with0 -
I am less concerned than I use to be. With that said, make sure your being correct with the numbers on both sides. Using a food scale for everything and hrm with strap.
Many would argue I under eat. However, I tried the eat more to lose and stayed the same. Now, I eat less and lose.0 -
Read some of the "pinned" articles (at the top of the category) explaining about net calories and the basis that MyFitnessPal uses to recommend how much you should eat.
My opinion... yes, you should be eating the right amount of net calories, and eating too low will set you up for either having to eat extremely low for the rest of your life (making getting enough nutrition hard) or for long-term problems with yo-yo weight. But I'm not an expert, so read and decide for yourself.0 -
Pretty important. MFP, unlike some other websites and methods of calorie tracking, does not include exercise in your calorie allotment at all- so if you don't pay attention to the NET you may be undereating, which can cause hormonal disruptions and stall your weight loss, depending on how much exercise you do daily. If you only burn a couple hundred calories a few times a week, its probably not a huge deal. If you run a couple hours a week, it could get you in to trouble.0

yes. your net calories should be near your goal. if it warns you about starvation mode you are not eating enough!0

While I don't believe that 1200 is exactly where starvation mode sets in, netting under 1000 certainly can't be good for you. Try to net more most days. Some days you just can't achieve it, but under 1000 is REALLY low (and not sustainable for most people).0
