I have worked out four days in a row now...and weighed myself the first day and today...and somehow i'm four pounds higher today than I was four days ago...and my eating has been mostly clean, tons of water, around 1250 cals a day...is it normal for your weight to go up when you're working out? is it just water weight? will it go back down?

Hi Lyndy,
I am no expert at all, but I will tell you what everyone tells me. Muscle weighs more than fat so you should go by inches or the way you're clothes are fitting right now. I hope this helps some. As I said this is just what I have been told quite a bit.
Feel free to add me to you friend list.
Good luck, let me know how it goes,

Yes - it is normal to have an increase in weight when you first start working out. When you first start working out your body will hold on to extra water. Just keep it up and you'll likely see a loss next week.0

It's water. 1 lb = 3500 calories in excess. 4 l s would be 14,000. I dont think you over ate by 14,0000

I don't really think you need to weigh yourself more than once every two weeks if you are worried about that. My weight will fluctuate 5lb in one DAY. Water retention, salt, what you ate, when you ate, did you pee etc. all count toward your weight...four days is not long enough to decide whether you gained or lost...like a pp said...you didn't overeat by 14, 000 calories in 4 days so don't worry about it.0

muscle does NOT weight more than fat...it simply takes up less room. A lb is a lb is a lb. But it is totally normal for weight to fluctuate that much. no worries. It may even stay up for quite some time before wooshing back down again.0

One thing I learned (for me anyway) is weighing myself often made me more depressed and discouraged so I stopped weighing myself except for 2-4weeks or if my clothes are feeling a little looser so I don't set myself up for disappointment. Also, when I was starting to work out it took 6weeks (yes 6 weeks) to see any weight loss. Of course everyone is different and my body is extremely stubborn apparently so you might see results much quicker than I did. It also depends on what you plan nutrition-wise on top of how often/what you'll be doing for working out. I started out slow so my loss was very slow.. give it time and don't give up. You won't lose anything if you toss in the towel.0

It's perfectly normal for the scale to fluctuate - it might be because your muscles are retaining water as they heal after exercise (espcecially something different) or it might be related to what you ate, whether you've been to the bathroom, where you're at in your monthly cycle, just to name a few.0
