Macros Question

I inevitablely go over one or more of my micros a day...like sugar, fats, carbs, etc. Which one should I worry about the most? It's usually sugar that I go over on, but my sugar comes promarily from fruit. I just really struggle to find that balance.:ohwell:

Everybody is different and will probably have a different perspective on this based on what works for them. I go over on sugar every day to the point I stopped bothering to check it since I love my fruits and I still am losing weight and getting healthier by the day. Instead I concentrate mostly on sodium and fat because I know they make me sluggish and bloated. Best thing you can do is try and stick as close as you can while also figuring out what your body needs and what works for you to accomplish your goal.
  • So many different opinions on the amount of sugar to be consumed per day 25g was one figure and it's impossible to keep to this amount there's sugar in fruits vegs and all kinds of foods! Another figure 90g per day for a non-dieter seems much more realistic so as long as you keep under this amount you should be okay that's the information I've gained.

I agree with the other posted reply- it really varies, you need to be in tune with your body to see what's more important.

My top 3 that I watch:

#3 If I go over in sugar because of fruit (not juice, but raw fruit) I don't care. If it's from juice or anything else, I watch it.

#2 Fats. I try to land as close as I can to my target, and I'd rather land a tiny bit under vs. over.

#1- SODIUM! O-M-G! I've noticed it's a night and day difference for me, lowering my sodium. I get bloated (legs even swell!!), feel sluggish and tired, and my stomach is just not right for the next day or so after I go over.

It's so easy to eat 2-5 times over the recommended amount of sodium each day- and salt is tricky- because you don't taste it in the food it's already in! Your body develops an indifference, to an effect, so you can't really tell how much salt you are eating. Sugar is the same way. Take 2 weeks, and try to eliminate as much salt, if not all salt, from your diet... then add it back in and holy cow- you'll see what I mean. I shared a Friday's dish the other day, and after 2 bites, I couldn't eat it. My husband said it tasted normal to him- cheese dip, chips and bacon pieces- I tasted a container of salt dumped in...
