reducing thigh muscle mass?

I saw a picture of myself the other day and thought, "good lord, look at those thighs..."

I'm not trying to lose a lot of weight. I'm 5'3" and 105 pounds, but I want thinner legs.

I've read that 45-60 minutes of cardio 3-5x per week, stretching, pilates, less protien, and body weight exercises will help reduce the muscle mass. Any other tips?

and PLEASE don't give me any of those "you should love your body" answers. I'm looking for facts, not opinions.

Sounds like a good plan. :flowerforyou:

By good I mean awful. At 5'3" at 105 lbs you're already underweight. I hope nobody helps you with this horrible idea.

Gymnast when young and always had quite muscular thighs. I know there will be some flack from this, but if anyone does have any thoughts on how to make them leaner, I would love to hear it. Not skinny. Mine were bigger than I liked even at 110. Have plenty of compliments. Would just like leaner.

"Leaner" thighs would be the result of losing body fat, not muscle. Look at improving overall body composition. That's the best advice I can give you.

Fact: You can't change your genetics.

Nothing will make muscles "longer" or "leaner" - muscles are muscles. They're attached to your bones at fixed points and stretching them won't change the attachment points. Muscles will atrophy (shrink) if not used, so you could always put your legs in casts or get around in a wheelchair for a few months so you don't use your leg muscles - but the weakness afterward would be a pretty terrible price to pay just for thinner thighs.

Get someone to whack your legs tanya harding style......a few months in a wheelchair should take care of that for you...

Well if you don't have fat to lose on your legs, and you are not lifting weights to build muscle on your legs, then there is nothing else left to lose.

If you are a true weight lifter and wanted to "balance things out" you would do less work on a specific muscle group to make that area smaller but somehow I don't think this applies to your situation.

I'm sorry, just clicked on your pic and you look great now. Your thighs do not look large at all.

I truly don't understand this whole "skinny-not-fit" mentality....I've worked hard for my muscular thighs and I'm pretty dang proud of them. And girl, at 5'3 and 105, I HIGHLY doubt your thighs are anywhere near too big...My opinion? Seek a medical professional's opinion of what's realistically healthy for your body. My prediction is that your thigh size probably shouldn't be a concern whatsoever for you. Sorry if that sounds harsh. I call it as I see it.

I'm 5'4" and not underweight and I am having the hardest time getting rid of my thigh fat but it's coming slowly. I lift weights almost 6days a week and run 4 days a week. Sorry, no quick fix.

Being lazy, not moving your legs so they atrophy and not eating much will certainly shrink your muscles.

at one point i thought about doing this but then i decided against it. i'm technically a ruler straight up and down shape but after looking at several pictures i realized that even though my frame isn't an hourglass shaped, my big chest and big muscular thighs makes it look like i am. so my big "i can snap a man's head off" thighs balances out what's going on with my chest  buying pants has always been a PITA for me since they will fit in the hip and waist but not so much in the thigh.

maybe instead of trying to get rid of the muscular thighs you can try to balance it out by working on your upper body too.

or you can also try doing a lot of running on flat surfaces

I recommend putting casts on your legs and using crutches or a wheelchair to get around for a few months. Your leg muscles should atrophy nicely.

Other than that, losing fat on your thighs is about your only possible chance to make your legs smaller. And it sounds like you're already underweight so that doesn't seem smart either.

In other words, there's nothing you can do within the realm of sanity. Accept it and move on.

Stop reading wherever you read that.

You lose thigh fat the same way you lose fat in any other part of your body.

Calorie deficit, lift some weights, so some cardio, decent protein intake.

Here's a fact for you... You're 20, 5'3 and weigh 105 pounds... If you believe "reducing the size of your thighs" is so paramount to your self-worth that it warrants serious discussion on a public forum, such that you may dangerously act on this notion... your thighs are not your problem.

I'm not "touchy-feely" by any stretch of the imagination. I'm very much not the "therapy" type. However, I believe you need to talk to someone about your self-image.

    It's not healthy.

Lol! All muscle is lean mass! And the length of your muscles is proportional to your body...

you're thighs are what they are - I can exercise and work with weights and run and 5000 other things and I will Never ever ever have long lean skinny thighs - genetics have cursed me with the thighs I have - however - genetics has also blessed me with proportions - If I look only at my thighs - they look big - but if I look at all of me I'm built very porportionately and everything is balanced - you've got what you've got so get used to it or just look at it differently thats about it.

If you lose the muscle... then you will just look more flabby anyway. So why?!

Also at 105 lbs there is no way you need to be losing anymore weight.

Im 5 ft2 and 130 and don't see a problem with my thighs.
