Canned Tuna

The only thing I ever use it for it sandwiches and the occasional casserole. I'm looking for some healthy recipes to use it in. I don't need to make a big meal with it because I am the only one in the house that will eat it.

I make a healthy casserole with it for about 450 calories with just 5-6 ingredients

    1. Ronzoni Healthy Harvest Noodles (180 calories per serving (2oz.)
    2. Canned Tuna 100 calories (I love chunk light)
    3. Sour Cream (60 calories per 2 tbsp. serving)
    4. Black Pepper
    5. Grey Poupon (1 tsp is 5 calories, I use about 4 for a nice semi-spicy taste) - 20 calories
    6. Sauteed onions if you please ~30-50 calories if you use nonstick spray... personally I use Country Crock's Churn Style butter, worth about 60 calories per tablespoon.

    I'm back.

Salads are a good choice too.

Lettuce, Tuna, Tomatoes, Feta Cheese, Craisins.. YUM!

    Canned tuna is awesome!
  • Tuna salad is always good. Celery, onion, tuna, and light mayo. Try putting it on top of a garden salad instead of making a sandwich out of it.

    Tuna Nicoise!

Do you put all of that together and toss in it a casserole dish and bake? Raw or pre-cook noodles? What temp and how long? TY

Mexican Tuna salad (how my husband prepares it)

    1 can tuna, drained
    1-2 tomatoes diced
    1/4 onion diced
1 fresh jalapeno or serrano pepper, seeded & diced; or, my preference: 1 jalapeno in vinegar seeded & diced
    1 tbsp chopped cilantro
Fresh lemon or lime juice to taste
    Salt & pepper to taste
*Optional-but tastes really good-- 2-3 tbsp of the vinegar juice from canned jalapenos.

You can eat this alone, on a tostada shell, toast, or on crackers. I like to toss it with chopped lettuce on occasion.

Just be a bit careful of tuna. Here in the UK we have advisories of limiting tuna due to mercury.
It seems two steaks or 4 cans a week for pregnant of planning to be pregnant women.

    Heres some detail...

I prob eat about 4 tins a week. Love the stuff.

Plus (apologies for the whiny environment stuff), world-wide tuna stocks are majorly depleted. I'm getting more and more into sardines, kippers and other more sustainable fish - easy to substitute in and better for the planet...
  • I have a very delicious one, but I will have to repost later on today... Got to grab my baby right now since he just woke up crying. Night!

I had a lovely lunch last week. I mixed one can of tuna with low fat mayo and some tinned sweetcorn and then scooped it into leafs from gem lettuce. It gave me about five leaves full and it was delicious and very filling

Hey, I actually don't bake it. I cook the noodles. Then just mix everything in together, so it takes about 20 minutes total to prepare. Celery instead of onions is an option too...

    You're welcome!
  • Okay. Sorry about that this morning... :)

This recipe is the BEST way I have ever eaten canned tuna!!! I didn't know it could taste so good. Everything about it is deliciously healthy!!! I had to tweak it my own way because I didn't have some of the stuff it was calling for. I also recommend that you measure everything in this salad so you don't get too much of some things. *** It's okay if you add more lettuce though. I will warn you: this salad kept me full for quite a few hours. :)

(From the Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 Meal Plan ~ Tweaked by me)

    ~***~~***~ SEARED TUNA SALAD ~***~~***~

~ 2 Tablespoons fresh Lemon Juice
~ 2 cups Mixed Spring Lettuce (dark green/purple leaves) or any dark green lettuce (spinach leaves can be used too)
    ~ *** 1/4 cup Feta Cheese (optional)
    ~ *** 1/8 cup Sunflower Seeds (optional)

I will add mayo/ranch and use it just like that as a dip for crackers...sometimes I'll cut thin slices of cheese

I'll toast some pita bread, mix the tuna with some avocado, and add spinach leaves for my sandwich.

Sounds like a good one to try!

I've become a fan of Trader Joe's no sodium Albacore canned tuna. I throw in a bit of Earth Balance Mindful Mayo (Olive Oil type) and whatever veggies I have around. Sometimes I eat it plain like that or toss it on top of a green salad or do a lettuce wrap.

Enjoying all the new ideas you're all coming up with:drinker:
