I know its ok to have a cheat day once in a while. I went to Bob Evans for lunch with my hubby after our baby girl's doctor apt. I got a cheeseburger, fries, and a slice of pie...I'm ALREADY over 1000 cal... I feel awful, and that was only LUNCH!:embarassed: Oh well. I guess one cheat day isn't gonna hurt me too much. Might as well buy a candy bar and enjoy the rest of it! :drinker:

  • Your baby is so adorable!!! I know I feel bad too when I cheat. Its like the moment before I eat it I want it really bad, but after I get done I feel so guilty! I am trying out new foods that are healthy for you that still have that sweet taste to them. The sweets are really what get to me the most. I try to tell myself after I eat bad, start tomorrow as a new day! and work out really really hard! Good luck!

I know I am going to end up eating bad once or twice a week. But don't let that ruin your whole day. It is ok to go out and have a meal with friends. But I am trying to change my lifestyle. just because you have a big meal or snack it is ok to get back on track and eat a normal dinner. Go for a walk or do something to burn off a few calories. I am still working on this everyday. I am getting better. Trying to eat smaller portions and working out almost every day. I just keep telling myself one day at a time. I am doing way better then I used to do.
  • I know what you mean. The cheating is good going down but the guilt of it tears you up. I cheated really bad over the past weekend. I decided, the next time I want to eat out, i will plug in the foods that I may want to eat and see how many calories it takes from my day. I figure, if Im actually looking at what Im getting into before I actually eat it, I can change it up a bit.

I also think that i will change my weigh in to Monday's like some others have suggested. That way, I know on the weekend I have to be more careful so I dont see it on the scale.

I just wanted to warn you that's exactly the mentality that will mess you up. Sure, it's okay to indulge every once in a while. But your whole day isn't shot because of it. Eat healthy the rest of the day and exercise.

It's very possible your candy bar will turn into "Oh, I blew it yesterday, so may as well eat whatever I want today" tomorrow. "I already blew it 2 days this week, I may as well eat what I want for the rest of it and get back on track next Monday." "I already blew that whole week, so I may as well just enjoy the holidays and get on track January 1st." Seems to be how most people fall off track big time, so don't fall for it! :flowerforyou:

I was going to say the exact same thing. Cheating once in a while is okay, but this is exactly the mentality I have had, which is why it's taken me over a year just to lose 20 pounds. It starts with, "Well, I messed up. This whole day is a write-off. May as well pig out the rest of the day and start over tomorrow!" then turns into, "Well, this week is a write-off. I will start fresh on Monday morning." And before I know it, I'm kicking myself because the scale hasn't budged.

At the end of the day, while WE may track our calories on a per-day basis, our body doesn't keep track of days and times of meals. Our body eats when it is hungry. It burns or stores according to what goes in it. Your body doesn't care if you've already had a 1000 calorie lunch. That additional chocolate bar just adds to the calorie 'tab'.

My mentality now isn't in terms of whether I had a 'good day' or a 'good week'. I take each individual choice into consideration. If I slip up, I try to manage the remaining meals of the day in such a way that I still eat- but consume as few calories as possible to make up for the slip (and I try to squeeze in a little extra exercise). If I have a bad day in the week, I try to tailor the rest of the week to make up for that day. The more I slip on that one day, the more work I have to do the rest of the week!

Of course, I don't want to make you feel bad. I'm just saying that I've been there time and time again, and that I've had to learn the hard way that thinking that way doesn't get you very far in the long run.

Great advice! I know once in awhile I fall in that category of "Ooops, I guess I'll just pick it up again tomorrow". Before I know it, I'm "starting over" again the next week. Best thing to do, just take the cheat for what it was and do your best to make better choices right away. You'll be happier and less guilty by the next morning.
