Biking with no acl or menicus

I have been wanting to start biking riding for exercise but I have no acl or menicus in my knee. The doctor said that I would never be able to run again. I have tried a stationary bike and that was painful. I was wondering if there was anyone else who has this and if they ride a bike, I don't know if I should just suffer through the pain and hope that it will get better. I don't want to buy a bike and not be able to use it.

Make sure you have good patellar stability. Do quad sets or straight leg raises to build the muscle set that makes your patella track smoothly in the groove they are meant to follow as you bend and extend your knee. It's important for these muscles to be as strong as possible. I found several exercise sources on the internet for additional recommended PT. Some times, bits of cartilage can break off and interfere with the joint and cause pain. You want to make sure there isn't another reason for pain. Be very careful about your body mechanics. No planting and pivoting on the acl missing leg. I dont use a shovel. For some reason starting a mower KILLS my knee! I had livdd lived 20 years without an ACL or the medial meniscus before I had surgical repair. I had great success with an auto graft and about three other procedures because I did PT for three months prior to surgery and was obsessive afterward with doing the exercises twice a day. That included treadmill, stairmaster, elliptical, isometric??? Hip flexor and weight training. And I was fairly obese but still had great results. Your knee will not be the same as it was before. There is nothing wrong with walking instead of running. I stopped all my PT a few years ago and now am starting from the beginning. Yoga, straight leg lifts and I just added a recumbent bike. So far, i've been fine with the knee. I am sure you can find something that suits your new knee and your new needs.
