10k in March

Hello all,

I did a 10k yesterday in Sheffield and got 57:42 which I'm happy with, but know I can do better. I found out about it 2 weeks ago, so did a 2 week training plan. Prior to that, my only exercise was football and walking.

The next 10k I'm doing isn't until March, so I have ages to prepare, and I want to run sub 50 ,minutes. I know that's a big jump, but I've got 6/7 months to prepare. I've found a decent 8 week plan that I want to try, but what should I be running from now? Should I be doing so many miles per month? I've read not to overdo it as you may cause injury... I'll still be playing football once a week/fortnight

Have a look at runners world - they have lots of good info and plans to increase your PB etc.

Find a good 8 or 12 week plan. and repeat it, excluding the taper week. Its a great structure to keep you running and should include Interval (speed work), Tempo runs, Hill runs, fartleks, long runs, progressive runs etc. on a regular basis. Enter some 5Ks as well this will mix up your training abit, stop you getting bored and open more races to yourself. look up Park Run (sure there is one in sheff) great way to keep you interested, i didnt find it suited me to continue going while in training though. But thats just me :)

Massively late reply, but thank you both! I ended up doing a 10k at the start of December in 47 minutes, so I'm now aiming for sub-45mins in March... 8 week plan starts soon
