  • I've been told, and it is what I do, if you are sick from the neck up then it is ok to exercise, anything from the neck downwards then not a good idea.

But obviously if you feel like crap then don't do anything and just rest.

I would add to the above: If you exercise in a gym, stay the F out while you are sick, because that's disrespectful to other gym goers.
  • I had to miss 2 of my favourite classes last week (tabata and boot camp) at the gym due to a chesty cold, still not 100% but going tonight or else I will go mad, lol.

I am no Dr nor do I play one on TV but if you are sick and its getting worse your workouts are going to suffer and be sub par I dont think you are getting a lot of benefit and it can s=ck to workout while feeling terrible I run and its miserable to run when I cant breathe so after many bad outings over the years I take a day or two off now and heal

LOL calm down side steel, i take it you got sick off someone at the gym? I do agree with you though... when i think about it the day before i got sniffly the girl next to me on the treadmill was coughing everywhere... its amazing how germs can spread so easily and you think you'd be immune but youre not!

Thanks for the good advice Smudger... Its chesty so i'll remain in bed til I get better!
  • Simple rule of thumb.... go to the gym and start working out. If it makes you feel better... keep going.... if it makes you feel worse, then stop.
    :)
  • just do gentle excercise till you feel better.
  • depending on how sick i feel i still tend to workout however just to a level im comfortable with and dont push it, it makes me feel better but i guess its down to individual preference and how bad you feel but my feeling is keep going!!! :-)

My problem with working out with a head cold is: I feel AWESOME while I'm doing it - my head and sinuses open up, I can breathe, it's fabulous.

Half an hour after I'm finished with my workout, I'm more stuffed up than ever. :(

I agree with the previous comments about cooling it when you have a chest cold. Stay home, rest, get better and try not to cough all over me. Thanks.

    Feel better!!!
