exercising with foot injuries (surgery)

Hi all...I'm most likely going to have to have surgery on at least one, possibly both feet in Jan or Feb. I am so paranoid that I'm going to balloon up because I won't be able to do my normal exercise routine. Any ideas for good ways to get in cardio/strength training while I'm healing?
Thanks,
Megan

Swimming! As long as you can walk, and you have a gym membership, you could do some weight training, as long as it wasn't putting pressure on your feet. Maybe you could also figure out some way to use an exercise bike safely. You can do it!

I'd check with your Doc to get a good idea of what's on the 'safe' list.
My gym has arm pedal machines that my doc has cleared me to use with my stress fracture... Swimming actually was off the list... it really depends on what stage and kinda of issues you end up dealing with but bigger gyms have a lot of options. Curves was highly recommended as long as I skipped the 'bouncing squares'.
I ended up using a wheel chair for two weeks and was surprised how much it kicked my butt and how fast my arms toned up.
Hope all goes well and wishing you a speedy recovery!0 -
Thanks gals! I don't have a gym membership and I'd like to avoid paying for one if I can. I'll definitely check with my doc and see what is safe, then go from there I guess.0

Ive had foot surgery 2 times now on both feet at the same time:sad: It is very difficult to do any exercise due to the fact that I had stitches in 3 different areas. I had to crawl everywhere in my home & chase little ones. I shouldve had a boot or something but never got one (weird huh?) Anyway...I don't see any exercise for you immediately. You will need to discuss this with your Dr as I think you'll only be able to control your weight with your diet.
Only now do I use a recumbent bike in my home. I still have a lot of feet problems due to my back issues. No body would ever know I have ailments when looking at me but your feet really regulate your entire frame so take care of them:flowerforyou:
You don't want any stitches to come out while they are in because you will get bigger scars as I know from experience. As a young 20+ year old scars are ugly on your feet at the beach with friends. Now I'm just turned 50 & don't care about scars but you could work out any other part of your body as someone else here as mentioned.
Good luck & make sure your surgeon is good. The first time I had surgery...the surgeon did NOTHING...he just was trying to "pick up" on me...according to the second surgeon the first did no benefit except cut me open & stitch me up. Then he would come to my home unannounced to see how I was:noway: I was so freaked out. I was a young, single mother who was just starting to date my now husband. Thank God. I was scared when he showed up to my door without warning. He would ask me if I've ever had a foot massage?:noway: :noway: :noway: so this is why I tell you to check him out. Hope I didn't scare you.
I've been through it all it seems in the feet department. So check it out with your Dr & if anything...you'll have every other part buffed but your knees down.
I'm sure you'll be fine with the technology they have these days is much better than 20 years ago.0
