Has anyone here tried the 5K101 program? It's like the couch 25K but (as I understand) with "better" music. By better I guess the music is carefully mixed to match your (expected) pace and it's a good variety?

I have a friend in Atlanta that is doing this now and loves it!

I went to my doctor yesterday to make sure I could try it (I'm over 200 pounds on a light frame) and got the 'clear to go' from her. She suggested I not get discouraged if I have to repeat the first week a time or two, and since I have an hour commute to work and I'll be doing this in the morning (5AM baby!) she suggested I ice my knees on my drive.

I have a salary job and I've had to put in some very long days (13 - 15 hours) and combined with two hours of commute time I just don't have time for a traditional workout! I'm hoping this 5K101 will help me make the best of the time I have.

If anyone has tried this I'd love to hear about your experiences!

I have not tried this but you can bet that salary I'll be googling it once I finish posting!

Over the summer I began the C25K program and it was really helpful. I fell off the wagon, but have recently climbed back on and wanted to get back in the running saddle so maybe I will try this one. It's discouraging to me to go back to a program I was excelling at and then stopped - so maybe this will give me the motivation I previously had.

Thanks and good luck to you!

  • I've never tried it but will be googling it now as well.

On another note if you don't have a lot of time to exercise, try some workout videos that do circuit training(meaning they mix up strength exercises with cardio exercises) This gives you the maximum benefit in the smallest amount of time. I personally love the Jillian Michaels DVDs. The 30 day shred is about 20 minutes and her other two I've heard range from 45-50 min I still havent bought those, but hoping to get them for Christmas! Just a suggestion for the days you don't do this running program!

MONDAY December 21 I'm going to start the 5k1010 http://5k101.com and I'm actually kinda excited! I've NEVER been a runner but I have zero time for exercise so this seems like my best bet to get the most out of what time I can find.

MY PLAN - out of bed at Five and dressed on the track or treadmill (I do live in Ohio!) by 5:15 Out of the shower by 6:15 and in the office by 7:30. I won't look too purdy LOL! But it's the best option I have!

If anyone has done this before I'd love some info on what to expect? Lessons learned? What did you wish you'd known?
