college gym

I'm working out for the first time at my school's fitness center tomorrow before class.
I have never been to a gym.
Is it okay to wear my barefoot running sneakers for more than just running? Should i bring another pair of sneakers?
im looking to use a lot of weight machines since I have never had access to them and also do a little cardio.
Also, how should I plan it out? Should I bring a change of clothes and baby wipes and go back to my car after the workout? I dont think there are lockers or showers at the gym. I'm just worried about smelling and looking repulsive.

How do other college kids do it?

Take a towel, use it to wipe your sweat off of equipment if you mangage to do that, or just put the towel down first if you think you're going to.

Never seen anyone using baby wipes at any gym I've been to.

I always shower after the gym and change, but might be pointless for you to put clean clothes on sweat, go home and then shower and change maybe?

I don't see a problem with you useing the barefoot trainers, but if you're lifting free weights, probably safer to bring different ones so it won't hurt as much if you drop them on your feet. No problem for the machines though.

Well I meant wipes to freshen up before class and what not, I cannot go home between the workout and class. I think I'll just bring my barefoot shoes.
  • Hey I wear toe shoes too!! They will probably have showers there. I would change into your gym clothes, go to the gym, workout, then shower if you have to. If they don't have showers there, just make sure you shower before you go, and take a towel to wipe off when you are done, throw on some more deodorant, change, and get on with your day :)
  • Going to new gym, especially after never going to a gym is pretty scary. Most people are pretty enthusiastic about explaining something. Or you can just watch other people use the equipment if you don't know how to use it.

Every college gym I've been to has had some form of a gym wipe.

And don't worry about looking sweaty, because everyone else will be looking just as bad and smell just as bad.
