  • Great links! Thanks.

I have to ask, you seem very well versed in the world of fitness/training--is this all simply from your personal experience and research, or do you have more formal education on the subject in your corner, too?

Well, I am going for my Personal Training certification (hopefully before the end of the year), but all my research has been my own. Couple that with about 13 years of football and 6 years of rugby (I played a year of college football, hated it, moved to college Rugby, LOVED it, and continued for 3 years after college, but rugby is hard on your body, it's a young mans sport); and you have my experience. I am a bit of an egghead though, and love to study and learn new things, for the last 2 plus years I've been doing so with exercise, health, and nutrition.
  • Sounds like you have found your niche, sir! Mind if I ask what PT training you're planning on taking? I took CanFit Pro's PTS course about a year ago (not bad, I haven't put it to very much use, as I took it more for continuing education and to gain perspective for my massage therapy work) but I have heard of so many different associations and courses available, it's hard to know who's going to give you the best information.

I've never played rugby (not much of a team player LOL) but a number of my cousins have played. You're not wrong about it being a young man's sport! The only thing I've seen mangle a body more might be lacrosse. Do you play any sports now?

If I do any actual training it will probably be for team sports athletes looking to gain functional strength and agility.
I'm taking the ACE PT test, I've been studying for a while, I hear it's a bear of a test, but I'm relatively confident. I just have to go get my CPR cert first, which I have scheduled for this weekend so...

I play mens baseball right now, I'm a pitcher, and a lefty, but I also play center field and first base if need be.
  • A southpaw, eh? Must be in high demand :P

For the ACE PT test, it is only theory or is there a practical aspect to it as well? Probably better for it to be a doozie, at least you know you will be held (and likely live up to) a high standard.

Good luck with your CPR this weekend, I'm sure you'll do great.

CPR's easy, I did that when I was a lifeguard in High school, so no biggie.

Yep, I'm in my RIGHT mind LOL!

ACE has 2 parts 150 questions, and a 2 part client section where you have to build their program for them I guess. I'm a little freaked out by it, but I do well on tests so I probably shouldn't be. Oh well, we'll see I guess.

Good luck! The test sounds similar to the AFAA certification test that I took in Sept (and passed!). I finally got around to my CPR certification which was no biggie. And I'm a huge fan of Plyo...
