feeling defeated today :-(

Ok so I had my gall bladder removed 2 weeks ago. I had a lot of pain in the first week but this last week I had been feeling pretty good. So I decided today I was going to start c25k.:glasses: I totally forgot I was supposed to take my parents to the airport for a trip to Ireland today so I got a late start. I hit the trail at noon at 95 degrees and it's so humid you feel sticky just walking to the mail box. I got my app started up and off I went.

Well idiot me I forgot my water but I figured hey no big deal I can make it (I have done it before). But I got about 12 min into day 1 and was nearly in tears because I had pretty bad pain in my side where my incisions are!!! So I wound up just walking back to the truck. I sat down on the side of the trail under a bridge for some shade before gettin in the truck. 2 guys on bikes rode past and asked if I was ok, i said I was just catching some shade and my truck was like 20 feet away.

They rode to the end of the trail and stopped in another shady spot. (Now keep in mind I was in my dad's truck since this was when I got back from the airport) I got up and went to get in the truck and one of the guys asked me if my dad was out riding his bike today!!! I felt terrible that my dad who is 56 years old is more fit than me at 25 and the strangers in town know it!!!:blushing:

So I am trying again wednesday in the evening when it is cooler but I am terrified I will be defeated by my incisions yet again

Has anyone else dealt with a similar issue? Any suggestions on what I could/should do to help the pain in my side calm down?

this is a question for your doc... depending on the incisions, you can cause hernias by trying to exercise before they are fully healed...

take it easy until you are healed... you didn't get out of shape overnight and you won't get fit overnight...

also... don't compare yourself to your dad... you are the only yard stick you should measure against... you are not your dad and cannot compare to him!!!

Thank you! I am not sure if it is the incisions themselves that hurt (I have 4 and only 2 bother me) or if it the inside part that is still healing. But I was released back to work after a week and I gave myself another week to chill out before starting it. I will keep repeating day 1 til I conquer it at least.

(hugs) honey! Has your dr cleared you for exercise yet? I applaud you for the get up and go to go out and try, but realize you have had major surgery and should wait for medical clearance. Think about it this way - if you keep pushing now, you very well could wind up sidelined for far longer than the original healing period.

I have a huge incisional hernia across my stomach from not taking it easy after my gall bladder removal. Take it easy for a few more weeks. Pain means more damage! You will so regret it.

I would definitely ask the doc... I know that sometimes when they clear us for "work" they don't often think of what kind of work we do... I have to ask "ok so I can go back to moving heavy patients and standing on my feet all night and walking 20000 steps a day??"... and I also ask "when am I cleared to begin weight training, cardio, etc?"

you have to be very specific with them when you want to know what you are being cleared for... because sometimes they think... work is ok because you aren't going to be jiggling around your freshly cut open insides!!

when I had my gal bladder out (laproscopically) it was about 6 weeks before I could walk/lift anything without pain... granted that was 70 lbs ago... and NOT at a time when I was working out as actively as I do now (I would have been lucky to get 1500 steps a day....)

p.s. I am a nurse... and the dangers of too strenuous of activity too soon just scare me... take it easy... do some walking... if you feel up to it some brisk walking... but I would hate to see you rip a blood vessel or something and bleed to death... or create a hernia that will take years to heal from... or any number of scenarios I can come up with!

Yea my mom is a nurse and I usually ask her these questions but thats kind of hard today seein that she is in the air headed to Ireland! LOL But I also work at the hospital as an EKG tech so I don't to a whole lot as far as lifting, etc. But sometimes I do have to help patients from a chair to bed or whatever.

I am just so bummed! I went and got new running shoes last week, I've had the app on my phone since the week before surgery. And now I go out and and yuck!

I know you are bummed... I am sitting right there with you... I am used to walking 15-20K steps a day.... I have a badly strained (possibly broken) mid foot... hurts like HELL...

I want so badly to be running right now... but that is how I injured myself... I have this feeling that I COULD push myself... and I could be fine... but coming home from work the other day in tears because of the pain has me knowing that I shouldn't...

if I rest and recoup properly I may have no lasting damage....

I I try to push it I may permanently destroy my foot and have pain for the rest of my life...

so I am choosing to sit here with my foot up... I am going nuts because I CAN NOT HANDLE BEING STILL!!!!!!!!!!!! :explode:   :grumble: :grumble: :grumble: :grumble: :grumble: :grumble: :grumble: :grumble: :grumble: :grumble:   :explode:

    :)

we have to rest and recoup properly
