Sore Foot - 5k Coming Up

A few weeks ago I went jogging on a trail with my dad to start getting myself ready for this 5k mud run on the 23rd this month. I noticed some time after that jog I had slight pains here and there in my foot. I dismissed it thinking it was nothing, I haven't run or anything in a long time, so my feet just were not used to it. That week and the week after I worked out about 4-5 days of the week. Last week I took the week rest because it was starting to act up a bit worse. Now it is hurting pretty badly. It hurts when I walk on and off, and it hurts a good bit sitting sometimes too. I am no where close to where I need to be in shape for this 5k and I'm scared if I can't heal my foot up by then, my team will be mad at me.

The pain is on my left foot on the outer part of my foot. It's in the mid section and goes from the side to the top some. It kind of is a pulsing pain, steady, but sharp when I walk around too much. I won't lie, I have not tried anything at this point because up till today I just ignored it. But now I'm in a crunch time where I need to get my cardio up and my body strength up for this run. I'm not expecting to win or set records, just to finish it for myself.

So, any advise on what I can do to help my foot heal quicker? Please don't say doctor, because I don't have the money for that right now. I have heard icy hot rubbed into my foot, I also have heard to keep it elevated and wrapped in an ace bandage. Is there anything more I can do? Oh, and a real kicker, I have about a half mile walk to my office every day! So I can stay off for PART of the day, but I have no other option but to walk to my office.
