My First 10K Saturday - What to eat the night before?

I'm really nervous for my first 10K on Saturday and was wondering what opinions were out there about what to eat the night before? I dont eat anyhitng special before my 5K races...but was just curious what you guys would suggest? Thanks!

I really don't eat anything special the night before but do avoid anything that might cause GI distress. I just try to have enough calories the day before to not feel under-nourished. The morning of a race I don't eat for a 5K. For a 10K I'll have a banana or maybe half a bagel with peanut butter at least an hour before the race to give it time to settle on my stomach. If I don't get up in time I'll have a gel pack or something.

The night before a big run is NOT the time to be experimenting with new things! Eat what you would normally eat before one of your 10K training runs that you've already proven to yourself works for your body. Part of your training should be learning what works nutritionally to support your races.

    And enjoy the race!

i dont eat any different than normal. same as tri10806, i'd probably have a banana/piece of toast or bagel with with peanut butter. i dont like to run on an overly full stomach as it gives me cramps.

Carb loading is generally for longer distances like half/ full marathons.

    Good luck and have fun!

Don't worry about eating anything special the night before. Most of what you've heard about "carb loading" and such is a bunch of bunk and the little that isn't bunk isn't particularly simple to do, besides being unnecessary for a race you're going to probably complete in an hour or so.

Stay well-hydrated and don't try anything new within 24 hours of your race.

    Good luck!

I'd suggest sticking to your normal routine in terms of eating, a 10K doesn't require carb loading; just eat well (no new foods), stay well hydrated, get a good night's sleep and trust in your training.

Good luck & have fun! (Remember to smile as you cross the finish line!)

Thanks! I wasnt sure if I should try anyhting new because with my luck I would cramp up or feel disgusting on Saturday morning. I usually eat whole wheat toast with PB and banana for breakfast. The run should take me about 50 minutes to an hour to complete and I agree I dont think carb loading is worth it for that short amount of time. I dont even know how to carb load anyway.

I never really treated 10K's any different than 5K. Usually a power bar and G2 60-90 min prior. If you're worried, bring a gel or something along. Don't know what level you're trying to run at....place, or just finish.
