Hi everyone =)

First day back at work after 6 weeks off for the summer holidays and I'm looking for any exercises I can do to fit in around work for the first couple of weeks

I'm going to be super tired working in a nursery but I don't want all my hard work from the start of the summer to go out the bin, you know?

I wondered if anyone was in a similar position and had any exercise they find helps for the first few weeks back at work, i want to maintain my fitness and healthy eating combined with work and not fall back into bad habits

But at the same time I physically and mentally am not able to work a ten hour shift in a nursery some days and then come home and to a 10 mile run.

Just looking for anything in-between whilst I get used to my new routine, Any advice and support would be really appreciated, I do NOT want to put this weight back on I want to be fit and healthy!

  • Can you build it into your travel to work and back? Walk, run, cycle even part of the journey? that way when you get home it is done! I cycle to work because when I get home I do not want to go to the gym! Or at lunch time do you get a break? Go to gym, swim, walk - try to fit in. When you get home could you do something quick? 30 min dvd work out? Try to fit it in where you can.

I hear you!! I have to run 3 nights/week after working all day and then getting my kids fed/bathed/to bed. Getting out the door is the hardest part usually.
If you have been running and like it, I'd say just stick with the running, and give yourself permission to cut the mileage for these first weeks. If you would normally be running 10, tell yourself you'll just do 5 and take it at a slightly slower pace. Once you develop the habit of exercising after work, and it's not so much of a struggle to get yourself going, you can ramp up the intensity again. You won't lose much fitness in a few weeks if you are staying somewhat active, and in fact a step-down period can be helpful in training.

One piece of advice after getting back to exercising after work, is plan your meals carefully. You don't want to be starving and running on empty, nor sluggish, overstuffed, and queasy, so take some time to find lunch and snack foods that will fuel you appropriately for late in the day.

    thanks for the tips =)

i hadn't even thought about walking to work but if i go the slightly longer way i can go up a hill there and back and it's roughly 25 mins so that's something already!

And very true about the diet, that's just as important, I just don't want to come home and slob infront of the tv every night with something unhealthy, now and again sure but that shouldn't be my routine.

And yes anything is better than nothing even if I just do a 60min run 90min walk round the park for 20 minutes.

Feel more motivated now! I'm sure most people on here manage to fit in work and MFP it's just about finding the routine that works for you.
