Bride on a Mission

I am starting my fitness pal today with a motivated and excited outlook. Im getting Married next March and want to loose about 30 to 40 lbs . Kind of alot in 7 months but Id rather start my goals higher than lower! My hardest obstacles are saying no to office treats, drinks on saturday night football, and working in a office all day and too tired to workout afterwards. ADVISE PLEASE! Also I would love some motivational groups to join!

  • Congratulations on your engagement!! I am in a similar situation to you... getting married 12/31/12, and determined to lose 40 lbs! So far so good, I have lost 20 since starting MyFitnessPal! I've got a little under 17 weeks to go, and 20 more pounds! I know I can do it, and you can too :) I also work in an office all day, and come across those same obstacles on a daily basis. Once you see the weight coming off it will be easier to talk yourself out of the treats!

CONGRATULATONS TO YOU AS WELL! WHEN DID YOU START? ARE YOU WATCHING YOUR CALORIES AND EXCERCISING? I DID PRETTY GOOD YESTERDAY ALTHOUGH I HAD 1 CIGERETTE :-( THATS MY BAD HABIT IM GETTING RID OF.
WATER WAS EASIER THAN I THOUGHT. USUALLY IM A CAFFENE JUNKIE COFFEE IN THE MORNING THEN ENERGY CRYSTAL LIGHT THEN DIET PEPSI. YESTERDAY HAD MY COFFEE THAN ONLY WATER!!!!!!!!
  • Well I have been kind of bad, I started off and on for a few months but never stuck to it! I have been going strong for about five weeks now though :) I am watching my calories and exercising at least 4 times per week. Luckily I don't have any bad habits that aren't related to eating, but I admire you for quitting the smoking!! Good job, I bet that's rough. I love water, so luckily that's not too rough for me. Caffeine typically gives me headaches, if I drink any it's one cup of coffee or one soda per day, but I would say I only have that maybe 3 times per week. Good job on sticking with water, that's the way to go!!

If you spend all day at a desk, get up every 45 minutes or so and do something active for 3 minutes. If you can space these breaks out such that you get ten of them through the course of the day, there's your 30 minutes of light exercise. Walk a lap around the office; walk upstairs and back down; if you have a private office, you can do some pushups or situps (buy a yoga mat and just keep it under your desk or something). Get up and stretch a bit. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, drink more water, park further away from the building. Make small changes like this and within a couple of weeks, you'll feel less tired after work, so you can start fitting in 30 minutes at the gym on the way home. Or go for a 30-minute walk around your neighborhood after you get home, even, if that's feasible for you in terms of how safe it is to do that in your neighborhood.

You could also just suck it up and start going to the gym after work right away; you'll feel better after your workout, I guarantee it. I always feel really good after I get done at the gym, no matter how I was feeling before I went in. Before you know it, you'll be lacing up your running shoes and going for jogs after dinner because you want to. Get your fiance on board and you can exercise together. And then when your wedding night comes, you'll both be in better shape for...activities. ;D
