sweating more? why

I am 72 lbs lighter than I was (301 to 229). Most of the way to my weight loss goal of 110lbs. Doing everything mostly right... working out a lot... rode my bike 2650 miles so far this year, eating much better, very little alcohol.

But... I now sweat a LOT more when I work out than I did when I started. I typcially burn about 1000-1100 calories in a workout averaging 70+ minutes of cardio.

Why do I sweat more NOW than when I was in much worse shape?

I've heard that the more you exercise, the more your sweat glands adapt to be ready to perform at any hint of physical activity so they can be efficient in cooling the body down. It's an unfortunate and annoying side effect that comes with being fitter.

Same here, my husband finds it hilarious since I never did sweat very much before and he always has, copiously. It's slightly annoying but a good sign :)

Yep. Your body becomes more efficient at cooling itself down when you use it regularly for its intended purpose. (Movement.) Just make sure to replenish what you lose with water. :)

It's really amazing how readily our bodies adapt to changing conditions!
  • well... I guess that makes sense. I was hoping it would pass so that I'm more tolerant of really hot days. but... I feel great... so I'm not really complaining.
