Counting sugar

Ive put in my breakfast and lunch so far and already am 7g over on my sugar. I only included sugar yesterday and went way over, but I had a bad day eating wise and put it behind me.
My daily goal is 30g, is this normal? Low? Should I be worried that Im going over?

The recommended daily allowance is around 80g or 20 teaspoons. (It's pretty vague.)
Pre-industrial consumption was more like 24g or 6 teaspoons.
I can't tell you if you should be worried or not, but I think it's good to ask yourself, "How much sugar do I want to eat? Would I add [x] many teaspoons of sugar to my food if it wasn't already added?"
Look at the sugar content *before* you eat and decided if you're comfortable eating however much sugar is in your food. If you are, enjoy it. But eat mindfully. You've already taken the first step by looking at what you're eating and asking questions.
I'm a great believer in experimenting and finding what works for you. Maybe try eating less sugar one week and see how you feel.
The trouble with sugar is some people (me, for instance) find it addictive. I'd love to be able to eat a couple of squares of chocolate a day, but I eat one piece and I'm in for the whole bar. And maybe another bar after that. That's the most worrying thing about it, for me.0 -
Thanks for the reply.
I find with 30g just fruit makes me go over.
Although I am like you with the whole chocolate thing. Im trying, really trying to cut it out. In the mean time I get the 200cal cadburys bars so I feel like ive eaten more than I have if that makes sense.
Hopefully I can balance myself out in the next month or so.0
