Minor Hip Injury: To Excercise or To Rest?

Hey everyone! I don't usually post much, but I have a dilemma and I thought "hey - this is the kind of thing the message boards are For, right??"

So exactly 2 weeks ago now I was doing a light jog with my small dog when I had a sharp sudden pain in my right hip (I'm left handed). It was so bad that I could barely walk until I spent a good 10 minutes stretching, which was VERY painful to do anyway, but afterwards at least I could walk. Should probably mention that I didn't stretch before starting.
The next day the doctor said that I inflamed that area between my femur and hip socket ("bursitis") and it typically takes a week of rest to heal.

ANYWAY: Question is, it's been 14 days now and I still have some soreness/minor pain in that area. Should I keep resting or get back into excercise?
Half of me wonders if it would damage it more, half of me wonders if it just needs to get used to being moved again a lot more.

I'd really appreciate some input! Thanks so much everyone!
