I know i am jumping the gun here a little bit but with the holidays fast approaching I cant help but wonder how all of you more expierienced mfp people have managed in past holidays. i mean lets face it november and december are giant food partys in most families. Any tips to not falling to far off track?

  • Just treat everyday as a single day. Continue logging everything even if you don't want to see the bad honest truth. Sometimes seeing the numbers of what you eat is enough to make you not do it again. Family gatherings, I suggest making things from home that you know are safe and you know the calorie content. That way you know before you go that there is a healthy alternative that is safe for you.

I treat them like a "one day" cheat. On Halloween, I will eat way too many Kit-Kats. On Thanksgiving Day, I will eat a lot of food. On Christmas Day, I will eat my body weight in cookies. Before/after the holidays I just use my usual "one or two" cookie or whatever rule but on the actual days... who cares :)

I like to bring a side dish that I know is healthy and that I can control so that I have options. Luckily my family is very sensitive to my dietary concerns and are very helpful when it comes to making things in a healthy way. I try to get my family to make fresh steamed veggies instead of casseroles and stuff so that I can fill my plate with mostly those and keep the other stuff to a minimal portion so that it balances it out and if they don't then I will bring my own steamed veggies or salad so that I can use that as the main focus of my meal and fill up on that and add the other stuff in small portions.
