Helping my husband to start MFP (part 2 ignore other post)

But his numbers are insane!! According to MFP he should be around 1850 calories a day. He's 6'3 and weighs 280. The TDEE/BMR calculators online put his BMR at 2500 and change.. Umm..wow..that's quite a deficit and difference, for him 1850 almost seems dangerously low. Sedentary TDEE for him is 3013. So what I did was I manually put his calories at 2550 to start. Would that be about correct?
He's setting a first goal of 40 lbs to see how it goes and then will go from there and readjust. He ultimately wants to be 225.
Input is appreciated as I'm not a guy so IDK how it will go. I do know since men lose weight quicker than women I will have insane fits of jealousy when he starts dropping 4-5 lbs a week :-(

If he weighs 280 he can run a high deficit for a good while - 1850 is 500 higher than a university professor prescribed for two large guys on a British TV show (Hairy Dieters).
Try figuring his body fat and using http://www.calculatorpro.com/calculator/katch-mcardle-bmr-calculator/
280 lbs 50% fat BMR 1740
280 lbs 55% fat 1605
280 lbs 45% fat 1880

That's weird. Are you sure his numbers are right? Double check in particular his activity settings and pounds/week.
My husband is 6' and 220 and his calories are like 2300 (1000 more than mine). So that just seems wrong.0 -

OK Fat2Fit shows that if he's Sedentary he should eat 2500 calories more or less to reach is ultimate goal weight of 225. That makes sense and that's what I set him at. 2965 it says if he does light excersise, which he'll probably do moderate, walking or hiking 4-5 days a week.0 -
That's consistent with what my husband has and he has lost 18 pounds in around 3 months.0
