Hip Pain - Running

I occasionally get some odd hip pain after I run. It is only on my right side. The pain greatly intensifies when I slow to a walk and will largely subside if I start running again. I'm thinking that it is in the ball and socket (where the femur meets the pelvis). It hurts mostly on my backside with some tingling going all the way down to the toes. It almost feels like it is not aligned properly. It does not occur every time that I run or with any kind of consistency related to speed or distance (or maybe just hurts a tiny bit but not really noticeable). Some days (like today) it hurts significantly and I had to quit my workout.
Does anyone have any idea what I might be describing or any suggestions on how to treat/manage it?
I will be asking my doctor when I see her next month but was hoping for some ideas before I get in to see her!

Hip joint pain usually manifests itself more in the front pelvis area, very close to the crotch.
With the tingling going down the leg, I suspect some type of nerve impingement, possibly piriformis syndrome.

Not a Dr., but could be an irritation of your sciatic nerve -

I was suffering from similar pain in my right hip and went to my local running store for advice. They spent time with me analyzing my running style and current running shoes. I was running in the wrong shoes (stability running shoes) when I didn't need the extra stabilitiy. They fitted me in new running shoes that have a slightly larger toe front and cushioning. What a difference! I've also added stretching after my first 1/2 to 1 mile and added Pilates to my workout routine. I am running pain free now. Good luck!0
