Today I showed my husband my MFP profile. I was also showing him how good ive been doing with calories the last week, WHEN... he pointed out i go over in sugar everyday!!! He said that i eat a lot of candy and yada yada. But i didn't argue because i do make room for candy in my daily calorie plan and I rarely go over 1200 calories even with candy.
So I have just one question?? Does anyone know if going over in sugar but not on calories slows down weight loss?

I don't really pay mind to the sugar number. I just try to keep away from sugary things because they make me want to eat more. Also, sugary things spike my blood sugar and might make me hiper. I try to eat them with a protein on hand. What I pay attention to is carbs, which is not sugar, but I think it's similar.

I go over on my sugar every day, it only makes a difference for ME if I go over on calories, which I've been doing a lot of lately, oops! As long as I stay in my calories, and don't eat after 8:30, I'm okay and will always lose something.

Guess I should add that I don't generally eat a lot of junk food, but it's not always all healthy sugar either. I think moderation is the key, and not overdoing the garbage is healthier, of course.

Depends on the type of sugar you are consuming. Candy, sweaten foods, etc. contain processed sugars, which can cause a lot of problems later on in life, as I and many others here at MFP have found out. Listen to you husband, and watch your processed sugar intake. Natural sugars, such as found in fruits, are far better for you. Try to increase your consumption of fruits if you have the need for sweets. Heres a link to an excellent article on the subject: http://www.three-peaks.net/annette/Processed-Sugar.htm

I go over my sugar constantly too. Honestly, it's usually because of my fruit. I like to pick one section and work on it for a week. One week I'll try to meet my fiber goals, next week makes sure my fat stays under. Try to mix it up to keep your body guessing
  • Ayyyyeeee. That's a tough one. Even though you're leaving room for it in your calorie intake, complex sugars can still be really bad for you. It might be better for you if you just reserve to allowing yourself one special treat a day, like for dessert. And then if you're really pining for the taste of sweets, you can fill that with things like dried fruits or nuts'n'berries or something of the sort.

I don't even have sugar on my diary. I only watch my calories, sodium, and fiber and I still lose .7 to 1 lb a week.

If you're only eating 1200 calories, it really needs to all be nutritious. At such a low caloric intake, there really isn't room in your calories for junk food. Natural sugars from fruit (not canned with juice added), whole grains, vegetables and dairy are acceptable. The table sugar you're ingesting in the candy is rough on your blood sugar.
