running in a parking lot?

hi guys,

so i just moved and have been slacking on cardio for a few weeks because of lack of energy and busy work schedule.
i don't know my neighborhood very well, and don't feel comfortable running in it yet....but i do live across from a church with a decent size parking lot.
would it be lame to run the perimeter??

thanks!

I run anywhere, any time. I keep my kit in my car and if I have a couple of minutes while the kids are busy with their after school activities I run. Sometimes it means making the most of what is available. It might not be the most enjoyable runs, but they do serve a purpose.

If running the perimeter of the church is what makes you feel safe, do it until you feel more comfortable in the area.

Not lame at all. I used to run around the parking lot at work at night because it was well lit. Another woman used to roller blade it. Go for it.
  • You'll still be lapping everyone that is home on the couch.

Running is running, whether you're running around in circles in the parking lot or at a park, your body doesn't know the difference.

I work graveyard shift on the weekends. One of my favortie places to go jog is in a parking lot. It's long, about 1/2 the length of a football field and 10 stories high. I jog up the incline ramps and stairs too.

There was one winter in 1976-77 where there was so much snow where lived that the sidewalks were completely unusable and the side streets so covered that there was only space for one car in many places. There was a medum-sized shopping mall down the street from where I lived--and it was one place where they kept things plowed and open. One circuit around the parking lot was about 1/2 mile and I spent most of Jan and Feb running those laps.

car parks good for HIIT cardio (sprints/plyometrics etc.) but be careful of cars backing out.

Ensure have appropriate running shoes or you will mess up your knees on concrete.

It's not lame at all! Go for it. It's important to run somewhere you feel safe, and if that's the place... just do it!
