NSV... I really made a lifestyle change!

It occurred to me today that I have done something that I had always thought of as a myth so to speak. I never believed that people actually made lifestyle changes. I guess I always thought that people would diet for awhile and that eventually everyone "fell back of the wagon" and went back to their unhealthy lifestyles.

I've been out of town on training the last two days and therefore eating out for every meal. It occurred to me today that I now automatically look for a healthy item on the menu because it's something that I actually want to eat! I don't have to talk myself out of ordering the bacon cheeseburger and fries anymore because I DON'T CRAVE THEM!!!

For the last 8 months I've been running at least 3 days a week and have lost 40lbs.

When I look at myself in the mirror I LOVE HOW I LOOK!

I think it really just hit me today all the changes I have made over the last 8 months and I'm actually very proud of myself for sticking with it this time and ACTUALLY MAKING A LIFESTYLE CHANGE and taking care of myself!

That is awesome! Good for you! I feel that way about the way I eat now, too. I think the first time I really realized it was when I was still trying to lose weight and someone asked me if I could eat "x" (don't remember what anymore) on my diet. My first automatic thought was, "I'm not on a diet." :)

great job, and I have found that when I eat that stuff, it doesn't taste like I thought it would, as a matter of fact, it doesn't taste good at all!

    Again, fantastic job!!!

Good for you! Way to stay with it until it becomes a habit. I've never been able to explain to anyone how one day I just changed and lost the weight. It finally just clicked somehow and I lost over 100 pounds. I wasn't particularly active when I was 285 pounds. Now at 50 years old, I eat right and I am known for being active and athletic. Me! Go figure. My husband and I were on the way to The Color Run in Sacramento last July and I started thinking about how now when we go anywhere or do things on the weekend, its something like biking, running, paddleboarding, rafting, hiking, etc. All our trips include something along those lines. I looked at him and said, "What did we used to do when we went out of town?" He said, "Shop and eat." Wow! Now that's a lifestyle change!

That is awesome. LOL losing weight made me keep lifestyle changes as well. Once you hit maintenance all your tools still come into play. I call everything you do in the weight loss phase honing your sword. I actually wrote an article about this recently on the Venus Index Blog called "How to sharpen your sword and win the battle" author Roberta Saum.
  • It's a great NSV. Well done. I'm still a bit of a chocoholic BUT greasy, junk food just doesn't cut it for me any more. When we go out for staff lunches, I automatically choose the healthy option, not because, as you say, because you have to, but because you want to. Great job!
