Dreaded plateau

Good afternoon guys, for over a month, I've literally lost nothing.

I'd lost about 5lbs before joining MFP and another 9lbs since joining 70 days ago.

But lately I've been hovering at 182-184 and cannot seem to get past it. Yesterday for the first time I was 181, which in the UK, is just under 13 stone, seeing 12 stone 13 on the scale was a relief. But today, back to 183. I realise I've not gained 2lb of fat overnight but I also realise the weight isn't coming off.

I don't eat clean as I just don't enjoy the foods or lifestyle but I am controlling my calories.

I've tried intermittent fasting, eating 1200 calories a day and up to 1700 a day but nothing is giving me decent results.

I also had a six week period where I was working out almost daily, including 50 minutes of swimming at a good pace, roller blading at 16mph and still my weight remained around the same.

I am getting closer to my goal weight, which is probably 170-175 but this is ridiculous. I'm gob smacked I've not given up but I'm determined to not let this beat me. I'm pretty sure I could put every pound back in within a few weeks of over eating.

I am now planning to try calorie cycling with two days of 600-800 calories and the rest at 1600 and see how that goes.

Any other ideas? it's driving me mad now.

I can only suggest what works for me. Two days a week at < 500 net calories, and maintaining at or slightly below net calories for the rest of the week. You also get a scale that measures your BMI and bone mass - you might just be converting fat to muscle.
  • Hey Hank. That's pretty much what I want to try. I noticed another guy having great success with that exact formula too. I think he may have actually got the idea from you.

I will try to get 2 days in at 500 net, though it will kill me, but I want results so I'll have to stick with it.

    cheers

I promise it won't kill you. You may get hungry. But, after doing this for about 6 months now, I enjoy it. I look forward to doing it each week - because it's easy (you don't have to DO anything) and it's effective.
  • Thanks. Wow look how close you are to your goal!
