I was released from the hospital yesterday after having a mild stroke affecting my left side. I am able to do most everything that I could do prior, but now it is at a slower pace and I tend to drop things due to continued numbness in my left hand. I am now taking prescribed medications and need to lose 120 pounds. I have been told by the neurologists to walk at least a half hour daily, so my two dogs are exercising also.
Are there any other post stroke members that can offer suggestions and encouragement? This stroke is my wake up call and need to do something to avoid a reoccurrence.

Thank you

    Hi
I am so glad you are okay. Mine was 3 years ago coming up in November. I am paralyzed in my left arm and the leg leg is impacted too. So I can walk about two city blocks with a cane. I just started really taking 20 minutes walks this week. First it was the stroke, then the weather was either too hot or too cold. It is slower because I can barely exercise but it can be done. I have lost almost 40 pounds since January. I am almost half way there! I needed to lose about 85 pound all together. If you can walk half an hour day, that is great! Do whatever they tell you cause - believe me it could have been worse! You can do it!

Hi there, I have had 3 strokes and feeling great. I have lost 32 pounds prior to MFP my doctors just can't get over how well I am doing. I take blood thinners so certain foods I can't eat......at one point they were to amputate my legs the blood clots had done so much damage and my arteries are drying up in my legs...I no longer have arteries below the knees the blood flow is strictly veins ,but let me tell you I started to do exercise real slowly...it was really hard I would do 10 mins then stop for at least half hour and then I would do 10 more and again I would stop and do 10 more. I watched the amount of calories I ate and each day became little victories...so I am sure that you will do this and feel so much better soon...If you are a smoker please make sure to quit, I waited till my second one hit me so please take care and life will be great for you...but you really must be a bit more active...Good Luck:flowerforyou:
