Grip Strength

I have been doing NROLFW for about a month now. I have been using handweights. The problem I am having is that about half way through, anything over 35 lbs I can't hold onto properly anymore. I know I need the weight because my legs and arms are fine, but my hands have a hard time holding onto the darn things.

Is there anything I can do to make this better? Would gloves help? Any help at all would be appreciated :)

Get a Barbell instead of dumbbells, that way for most exercises you don't have to hold the weight, it will sit on your shoulders instead.

That said, google or check youtube for exercises you can do to strengthen your grip.

I have the same problem...When my dumb bells hit 25lbs I had to start wearing gloves which does help a lot, but with heavier lifting, such as dead lifts, to lift more than 145lbs I have to use wrist straps...you can find both at most sporting good stores

The best workouts you can do for grip strength are pull-ups and handstands (or handstand pushups).

Checkout the book Convict Conditioning on how to progressively work towards doing pull-ups effectively.

Load up barbell, pick up off the ground and hold it?

My hands aren't sweaty letting go, it's like failure letting go! It's stupid annoying, ahahaha.

Depends on what your lifting, if it's Deadlifts for example, I'd suggest straps. However to improve your grip strength you can do plate pinches or my favorite the wrist roller http://relativestrengthadvantage.com/wrist-roller-forearm-strength/
I throw them in at the end of my wednesday workout

I use gloves because otherwise I get ripped up callouses on my hands. The gloves enable me to do the exercises and still have soft, lovely palms. That's the only benefit of the gloves.

I have the same problem with my lunges and step ups so I use the barbell now. the oly bar is an automatice 45lbs your holding. then you can work your way up from that point. Your core is also much more engaged using the Barbell too!
    Good luck!

I also used gloves before transitioning to the barbell because to me they help. Deadlifts im still using gloves and when that doesnt work I switch to one overhand one underhand grip on the bar.

Versa Grips work great! I used them once when I had a badly injured finger.

My problem with the barbell is that I can't get it up to my shoulders by myself a lot of the time. That said, I am sure there are some I can do with the squat rack at the gym that might make my life easier.

Try using a hook grip. You can google for pics and instructions.

Doing hook grip deadlifts has helped my overall grip strength tremendously.

My only problem with the barbell is getting it up there. I am none too graceful, ahahahaha. Maybe I can have my boyfriend help me out now that he is coming out with me.,.

You might need to buy a chalk and work out with the deadlifts. You might want to learn how to use the thumb lock grip when you are lifting with the barbell bar. The deadlifts are the best way to strengthen your grips. Don't use straps if you want to strength your grips.

that was my issue as well so i invested in squat stands. best thing I ever did cuz getting it down off your shoulders to the floor once your energy is spent is NOT GOOD.

There's some gloves that have an additional metal hook. Gymnasts use them. Also, have you looked into getting straps? They definitely help for dead lifts and upright rows.

Also, a curbed barbell takes some pressure off your wrists while giving you a point of reference for your hand placement. If your hands/arms get tired, you can always switch your grip to a different placement/angle.

Maybe you can switch to a kettle bell workout to build up strength. Or hit the rowing machine?

    Good luck.
