Shapewear when Diet doesnt do it quick enough

I have a question for the ladies. I just got a dress that apparently is smaller than I thought it was going to be. OOOPPPPS! So I have time to hit the gym hard and watch what I eat but if that is not enough. Does anyone have any recommendations for shapewear??? Also with shapewear how many inches can it sinch in???? It is for my waist up as the dress flares on the bottom half. Thanks for any help you can give.
