Why I don't lend out my tools

Well, not really a tool this time but, my car jack and tire iron.
Headed home from work last night, I passed a co-worker on I-95 on the side of the road. Trunk open and hazards on in the rain.
I got off at the next exit, looped around and pulled up behind him.
He bought a used 350Z and he had a flat.
He also did not have a jack or a tire iron.
I let him use my jack (I had mt Cavalier) and my 4 way lug wrench.
As he was working on it, his Father pulled up and, since it was raining and I was already running late, I told him to just bring the stuff to work.
Well, today, he gives me the jack and, when I asked him about the lug wrench, he said that he forgot it.
Now, my biggest "sin" is that I overplan stuff. Now I have to go out and buy another 4 way before going home because, mentally, I cannot drive knowing that I am not 100% prepared for a problem.

This is why I don't buy tools. I just borrow them. That way if I lose them, no harm no foul.
In case that gets lost in internet translation, I'm being sarcastic. I hate it when you loan stuff out and people can't be responsible with it and return it.0 -

Oh snap, my OCD FIL has found MFP...0 -
I think it's so rude and disrespectful to borrow something and not return it promptly. I don't know that I would run straight out and buy another but I like the 'be prepared' attitude. Don't worry about people who think you are making a big deal out of nothing. Those are the kind of people who are happy to borrow things and not return them.0

When he returns it.
Hit him with hit.
I know it will make me feel better and he will remember next time.0 -

It sucks that he did you that way, but seriously... OCD much! You'll be fine! Don't waste the money. Just wait until you get yours back.0

I drove a 1990 Cavalier for a long time and it ran great! The older ones are pretty solid.0 -
anyone else read "boobs" for tools every time you reread this thread title when you refresh?
I think I have a problem...0 -

If the Suburban is making a funny noice or something doesn't feel right, I absolutly REFUSE to let my wife drive it until I repair it. If that meens I take a day off work, then so be it.
With the Hot Rod, it is not so bad because I can let that sit if needed.0 -

Or.. Maybe not because I actually take care of the stuff I drive.0 -
I'm very OCD... I like my mess, and I don't want anyone touching it. I know where every thing in my mess is, and I can't find squat when something gets "picked up" or moved.0

altho i drove a used 98 caviler for a few years(it "turned over 2x's) i also had my OMFG crate in the trunk, 2 sets of jumper cables spark pluges (and wires) 3 cans of fix a flat, radiator sealent, duct tape, heat tape, first aid kit, tent+sleeping bag, coolant, wiper fluid, spare check book, flare, and a tow chain.....oh and the spare+ tools are built in to the trunk in my model
laugh all you want but i did this because i owned a bronco before and got stranded in the mid' of no****ingwhere for 2 days without a cell0 -
you sir are one strange cookie!0

The only problem with this is that you might break down on your way to the auto parts shop.
You're better off just borrowing one from another motorist in the company before you leave.0 -

It is aggravating that I need to do this in the first place. I KNEW I should have just sat there and waited for him to finish using my stuff instead of trusting him to return them.0 -

I had a 92 Bronco before I had this little Chevy and I spent more time under the hood then I did driving it.
the final straw was after it took me two days to install shorty headers on it.
My wife finally convinced me to sell it.0 -

I've been driving the same little truck since 1997. Now that you mention it there is a jack or some kind of tool behind the seat. I'm sure I could point it out to whichever dude I get ahold of from my cell if I have a problem I wouldn't have a clue how to put my Donut tire on or how to get it out from under the truck ive never even checked oil before!0

Haha I can totally relate.... My husband does all that man junk. (Funny way of saying car stuff, don't be offended thx)
I have never changed a tire... I'm too afraid to pop one. Oil. Who knows? I'm too afraid to get under the car. haha.
I can't even do basic bike maintenance. I've always had a guy around who would rather them do it then me.
I do all the laundry, cooking, and I rock at budgeting. So I guess it's a fair trade off. :laugh:0 -
By the way... I got my new 4 way lug wrench last night AND, as a plesent suprise, I was able to get 5 quarts of synthetic plus a K&N oil filter on weekly sale.
Thay hardly EVER have the K&N in the sale so I am forced to pay full price.
Bonus points for me.0 -

Lighten up man, I was just kidding with ya.
I'm a car guy through and through and religously do all the maintence on my vehicles as well.0 -

I need to go back tomorrow and dump the oil catch (it is a 10 gallon one so I put it in a small trailer) and I will probably buy oil and K&N filter for the Suburban. I mean, as long as its on sale and all.0
