I track my progress every 2 weeks and somehow the 2 weeks that included thanksgiving and the week of leftovers, i lost 10 lbs. great right?! no.. bc last week (monday) i weighed myself on my regular weigh in day and i still weighed the same. hadnt lost any weight and that was okay i will just extend it a week (my goal is 5 lbs every 2 weeks on the 1200 cal plan) well i weighed myself today and still weigh the same. i have been eating fast food lately (and not counting my cals s well as i should!) I decided for the next week I am going to drop down to 1000 cals and work out 5 days this week. Its going to be extra hard but I am supposed to have lost 10 lbs by next monday (my weigh in goal) so Wish me luck and hopefully itll work?!!

Good luck! My only advice would be to make those 1,000 calories the highest quality calories you can find, otherwise you'll crash and burn. Trust me, I've been there! I'm also cutting way back this week. My mini-goal is this Saturday and at this point I don't think I'm going to make it!!0

Why do you have such a strict deadline on your weight. I wish that my weight would drop according to the schedule my brain has set.... that just doesn't happen.
By going nuts for a week and eating extremely low calories, you will drop weight and when you start eating your normal way, the weight will come back again. Slow and steady wins the race0 -
Also with the fast food, you may have excess sodium. Make sure that you are drinking plenty of water.0

I am just gonna be honest....in the long run, the whole 1000 calorie thing will never work.....you can't go the rest of your life eating 1,000 calories a day. Instead of cutting back so many calories and eating fast food, why don't you give yourself the calories and NOT eat fast food...sounds like a better trade to me....sodium (like the previous person wrote) is the devil and probably the reason you are at a stand still.....you are retaining water....don't eat fast food for a week, drink more water and let yourself have the benefit of those extra calories.....this is a lifestyle change, not you punishing yourself. If you start to punish yourself, this will never work and you will end up RIGHT back where you started. Trust me. I am 3 pounds away from losing 40. And this has taken me about 2 years....and doing it slow is so much better than giving deadlines. Most peoples goals are just that....GOALS! Not deadlines.0

I can see how you would have not lost weight in the past week of eating Fast Food... Even if you stick to the calorie limits, the amount of sodium, carb, and fat in the fast food would keep you retaining water and prevent you from actually losing the pounds. I agree with Crunchytxmama that you've got to eat better quality food. As for dropping down to 1,000 calories, I would say it'd be better to stick with the MFP calorie goals that are set out for you. Instead of trying so hard to make sure the number is what you want it to be on the scale next week, concentrate on this new lifestyle you are making for yourself, which is, as Havingitall put it: "Slow and steady wins the race." Fast food can't be a regular part of your life if you want to lose the weight and keep it off. And cycling from fast food one week, then dropping under 1,000 calories the next week isn't going to get you where you want to be, either.
If I were you, this next week I'd only eat fresh fruit and vegetables, lean meats cooked healthily (i.e.not fried, breaded, or battered!), and minimal carbs and sodium. Keep it at 1,200 calories (or whatever the MFP goal is). Work out as much as you want, but don't eat the exercise calories.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes!0 -
Thanks for all yalls questions and concerns. As far as the fast food, I stayed under my 1200 calorie limit a day I just didnt add the ketchup and things like lettuce which yes they do add up but not as much. I Always make sure that I make my calories count and pick and choose what would be better for me and be more filling without going over my calories but I am a full time student that had 3 finals this past week as well as I have 2 full time jobs (day and evening) and also a mom, so this past week was pretty stressful and I am in no way punishing myself or doing the impossible, I am just strictly watching my calorie intake very closely this week and eating 200 less a day. I am not doing it forever, only for a week to see if I can accomplish it and what the results will be. I am in this for the long run so no matter what happens this week.. it is not going to discourage me I have already lost 30 lbs and the reason I am putting a "deadline" on it is because I have very realistic goals (2.5 lbs a week/5 lbs every 2 weeks) and that is not alot.. and I am 10 lbs behind if I am still at this weight come monday ( I am 189 and my goal is 180). I am pushing myself this week because my goals all fit into the bigger picture me fitting into my wedding dress come April, and me being alot healthier and happier for my family and me. While to some this may seem like punishment, to me its a challenge.. =]0

actually t hat is quite a lot.... it's healthy to lose a pound a week by most standards (dietitians, dr's, trainers etc) , anything UP TO 2 lbs is still pretty healthy, but expecting a 2.5 lb loss weekly...after already having lost 30lbs??? that's not really a realistic, maintainable goal...i agree with the person that said ok sure eat 1000 cal all week but once you go back to eating properly your body will gain back those pounds. 1200 cal is only 200 more.... like was already said, why not choose healthy quality foods and eat your calories rather then cutting them and eating fast food....sure you can eat fast food and stay within your calorie content.... but eating take out every day totalling 1000 calories or eating 1200 cal of wholesome healthy quality foods....which one do you think is going to get you where you want to be faster?
JMOgood luck, and be careful.

I don't think your first reaction to not losing weight fast enough should be to lower your calories to 1000. If you follow MFP's guidelines, you will lose the weight. The maximum recommended healthy weight loss/ week is 2 pounds with a minimum of 1200 calories/ day. Your first concern should be the health of your body, and your body needs nourishment.0

2.5 lbs a week is a lot... as a matter of fact it is quite unreasonable unless you are morbidly obese, which you aren't. I do understand your goal for your wedding but to squeeze out these pounds to achieve a goal that you set for yourself is not reasonable.
I was losing about 10 lbs a month at the beginning. I had a lot to lose and it came off easily. Now my body has slowed that weight loss and I have to work very hard at getting it to drop. I cannot achieve those 10 lb months anymore as they just won't happen. I wanted to be down 120 lbs by new year back in June, that changed to 100 lbs at the end of the year in September and now I am hoping to maintain my weight over the next couple of weeks instead of gaining. I had set a mental date of next summer to be the ideal weight, my body has other ideas. I have now realized that I will get there but it isn't on a goal set in my mind, it will be as my body allows with the help of good nutrition and lots of exercise.0 -
Just a thought? What if instead of cutting your calories back by 200, you increased your exercise to equal 200 calories a day? I think that might be a healthier alternative.0

I totally agree. 2.5 pounds doesn't sound like much but have you ever picked up a 2 pound weight? Two pounds is a LOT, it really is. And to expect a bigger weight loss than that... might be hard on your body.
I also agree with previous PPs who mentioned the sodium in fast food. Even if you save enough calories in your day to account for it, there is still TONNES of salt. That in itself can make you pack on the water weight like nobody's business.0
