Does anyone know roughly the nutrition facts on chicken and rice soup at a mexican restaurant? It had chicken, avocado slices, cilantro and onion.

  • i would say at least 400-500 calories. Especially if there was rice in it. Plus the calories of the avoacado. Also, I don't know what all is in the broth, so there may be a lot. Its still a much better choice, you could have blown it w/ 2 enchiladas, and rice and beans which is like 800 cals or something. But 4-500 is my guess!
  • Was it broth-based or cream-based?

you can often just grab a comprable dish - like look up chilis or applebees or something. You can also look up the individual ingredients and add them separately (chicken, rice, broth...). I then add in about 300 more calories than it would be if I made it myself :) I dont know what restaurants do but I think just bringing it through their kitchen door adds 100 calories!

On this note - anyone every gone out and gotten the summer veggies or broccoli only to find them doused in so much butter and salt that you might as well have enjoyed and had the french fries! I don't eat out much so I often forget to specify and have actually sent them back because there was so much butter on them! I also wonder how accurate the calorie counters on the restaurant sites are for sides like veggies where they are that calorie IF the cook makes it to specification - if you have worked at a restaurant you know that there is no measuring when it comes to grill and topping butter! I am sure that they are often 2-3x the calories that the restaurant website says they are - you may think you are getting a 120 cal side, but it is probably more like 400!
