Some advice please

Hi All

Right - I have semi-fallen off the wagon (so to speak) and slipping into a routine of eating crap and not enough exercise!

I'm halfway through my 2nd time of doing the 30 Day Shred, and to be honest - I'm bored of it! I've looked on YouTube for different fitness video's - have found a few by some people called "Fitness Blender" - I've also got a couple of the "10 minute solution..." dvd's (the "Blast off Belly Fat" which I really don't feel comfortable doing, I feel I lack upper body strength) and "Target Toning" - which I like, and you can mix up the 5 x 10 minute "sessions" for a bit of variety). I also have the Xbox Kinect - Fitness Evolved 2012 - which again has a variety of different sessions for different areas.

I am however noticing that (sorry about this!) but where my belly button is, I seem to have an over-hang of flesh above it, which doesnt seem to want to shift. I would love to start running, but I feel A. Uncomfortable, B. Unconfident and C. I don't live in a particularly nice area (druggies in the park which I was contemplating running around).

So I was just wondering if anyone could offer any kind of advice in regards to this stupid over-hang!! Or if they could recomend anything else that could assist, along with what I need to get back on with to get rid of more weight?!

Thanks very much

Regarding the crap food. Number one, don't beat yourself up about it. You're doing something about it now. Two: get rid of things that just shouldn't be in your house, and replace them with things that should. Willpower no longer an issue. Three: buy a cookbook emphasizing new ways of cooking that you could maybe get excited about.

Choice of exercise is pretty personal (just like food tastes). What appeals to you?

There are a lot of good workouts on Youtube, if you like variety and the convenience of doing things from home.

I really think it's important to take a 'keep calm and carry on' approach to falling off the wagon. When i lost my weight, I had more than a few days and weeks like that. Key was to just get on with things at the next meal or day, or when you can. Guilt has no place in this process. I absolutely forgave myself any PMS related crap food especially.

You ever tried Zumba? Honestly even if you don't think you aren't a dancer..it's brilliant! I have friend who did it on Wii n loves it...maybe there is a kinnect one. I went to classes. Like last comment..gotta enjoy it! Punching/kicking bag...brilliant. 20 min is a big burn. N ...stop being naughty with food n you will feel much better. if you do it soon enough, your body will forgive u a lot quicker!!

I have the Zumba "game" for the Kinect, but I really lack co-ordination lol I've tried it several times (in the privacy of my own living room, don't think i could go to a proper class though)

I do normally cook from fresh - I tend to use the BBC Good Food website, and have a whole folder full of recipes - not beating myself up about it as such, just giving myself a telling off for not doing so well.

And as for getting rid of stuff in the house - I live with 2 other people, I do the shopping so I tend to buy them treats and I can leave them alone, they have them in their lunchboxes normally, my downfall is alcohol I think - plus I'm more savoury than sweet these days :)

Just wondered if anyone could recomend a decent cardio programme that would help with breaking down the fat on my tummy, I've lost 4.5inches off my waist, which isn't really a lot but I'd like to get rid of a lot more

Hi I have found walking and running the best exercise for losing weight....I started walking in Feb. 2012 and could only go 10 minutes a day....but just kept pushing myself.....then I started adding in a bit of jogging ...and I mean a bit......now I am interval walking and running for about an hour per day...I have lots of inches all over and especially around my belly....I have also lost 35 lbs...so just keep moving and pushing yourself a little more every few days and stick with it....I find if I am exercising I eat better because I don't want to waste my hard work....add me as a friend if you like...also I join little challenges on here that really make me work harder....my favourite is September move your *kitten* Challenge.....it is new every month and you pick a goal of miles to walk, run, bike or whatever each month.....good luck and stay positive it all takes time

In terms of Zumba, I can't recommend enough getting to a class a few times, even if you plan to just use kinnect/wii... It helps you "get" the steps as there are things you just can't see on the screen...

You have been on this site long enough to know that what you are asking is simply not possible, you cannot target an area to lose fat. You have to train the whole body and then you will see inch loss everywhere. I wish there were a magic workout for belly fat but there is not, if someone says there is then they are a fraud.

Instead of spending money on fitness games to plug into a games machine buy a good set of resistance bands and a heart rate monitor. Then google Full Body resistance band workouts, these on the whole will elevate heart rate for fat burning and also provide strength training. Cardio plus resistance for 45 minutes per day is the fastest way to drop inches, you don't have to do 45 minutes in one go, you can break it down as long as the heart rate goes up. Also, research Perceived Rated Exertion (PRE) and understand heart rate and exertion, they are slightly different.

Check out nowloss.com , he has some great simple workouts; effective and no equipment.

Ok, so I know that you can't specifically target certain area's to get rid of fat faster, but surely there must be some exercises/workouts which assist with breaking down fat?

And Vtachycardia - thank you for your insights, but unfortunatley I don't have the money to pay for a heart rate monitor (already looked into these and they are slightly pricey) and as I have the games already and have done for a while, they,I'm afraid, will have to suffice for the time being until I've cleared some more debts to free-up some money to be able to invest in extra items! But, I will check out nowloss.com - thank you
