I would love to use our elliptical more, but can't seem to go more than 10 minutes without my feet/toes going numb. The model that we have has pedals that can be adjusted and are supposed to prevent the numbness, but I have yet to find a setting that actually works. Have others experienced this? Is there anything that you've tried that has been successful in alleviating that problem? (Sorry... slightly off-topic.)

I do love my elliptical. It is my fall back when I can't go outside and find a trail to (power walk) or cycle. I love, love, love, outdoor activity. That said; my elliptical is my go to. I have a great playlist that I have on my IPod. If family is home, I put on my ear buds, if no one is, I blast it thru my speakers. I mix it up in 20/10 minute blocks. ex: 20 min flat at a fast pace. 20 minutes incline and more resistance. 10 mixed and reverse motion. Last 10 to 15 testing myself and then cool down. Music and mental visualization plays a big part in a successful elliptical workout. After a workout like that, I am on a high for hours. It is defiantly a great work out and I feel that I have done both cardio and strength training.

    Good Luck:)
  • I have just discovered the Elliptical trainer upstairs at my local Y after hurting my lower calf muscle which meant i could not take part in group fitness for a few days. I love it ! I can get a good sweat up and be almost breathless with 10 minutes using high Resistance. I will do around 80 minutes on the machines now and am thinking about hiring one over the xmas break to use first thing in the morning to get my heartrate up and start my calories burning. I found its gentle on my knees and especially my calf and heel which i had hurt. I have a FT7 Polar HRM and i find the Machine will over estimate by around 20 or 30 calories. I have also found by engaging my core muscles and pulling my stomach my heartrate will go up from 131 to 139. Although overweight i am pretty fit and find it hard to burn calories as i work out everyday. I can burn a good 300 calories in 40 minutes. So i say Yay !!

I just realized at the Gym i have been using a Stair Master not a Elliptical Trainer so i guess i cant really say too much :)

I have lost a bunch of weight (around 38 pounds) and dropped 5 pant sizes from using the elyptical over the course of several motths, along with eating good after a workout. I eventually got bored of the elyptical and started on the arc trainer and instantly found my leggs were more toned then before and I burned more calories in less time on the arc trainer then I did on the elliptical.
