Protein Shake vs. Protein Bars

I need some input from those of you that know the difference between protein shakes and bars, as far as what they do for your body. I currently have a protein shake in the AM after my workouts, but I have to choke them down. Even if I add yogurt, cocoa, fruit, whatever to it and blend it, I still gag at the taste of it. I've used GNC Berry, Chocolate, Vanilla, Cookies and Creme, as well as Designer Whey Strawberry. I just can't stand the taste! So, I'm wondering if I could do protein bars instead. Is there something that makes the shake better than a bar as far as absorbtion in the body? Please help!

What is great about the shakes are they are already in liquid form so your body gets to use the protien as soon as you drink it whearas a protein bar has to be digested in order to absorb the protein, slower release and longer to get to the muscles.0

My opinion is that you are better off eating (or drinking) REAL protein such as chocolate milk, yogurt, cheese, nuts, nut butters, lean meats, quinoa, tofu, beans, etc. I am a weightlifting instructor and I *rarely* use any shakes or bars - like a couple of times a year as a meal replacement or snack if I'm in a hurry and haven't pre-planned. But definitely try and find something that you enjoy and don't have to gag down0

You may want to consider emailing as many supplement companies as you can who sell protein powder and see if they will send you a free sample. Many times they will. This can help you find a powder you will enjoy without having to drop $30+ bucks each time.
Besides the fact one is a drink and the other is a solid food. protein bars tend to be higher in calories, carbs, fat, sugar then powder. If you decide to go with a protein bar just research as many brands as possible and choose the bar with a ingredient profile that best fits your needs. There are lots of options. Good luck.0
