Fitbit - another confused user

Hi - I got my fitbit mainly to keep more accurate records of my calories burned, but I don't understand the number the fitbit website gives me - I am supposed to burn 2400 cal a day? What is that - over and above my normal survival-mode caloric consumption of approx 1800? (what's it called? Basic Metabolic Rate?) - that just seems too high, and if the 2400 includes my BMR, I basically have to wear it 24/7...

I don't unnderstand that "goal" the tracker gives me....

I also thought the tracker tracks my steps, and while I have not yet really walked today, I am walking around at work and to the grocery store etc, but after syncing (??spelling - too lazy to look it up) my data, I still have 0 steps....

Are most of you tracking your progress on both websites? That's too much record keeping for me, I'll need a secretary soon - but I would like to know my level of activity output!

My 20 min circuit training to the 30 DS Level 1 gives me 250 cal on mpf, and 600 on the fitbit thingy....just a bit of a difference...

Any help is appreciated -

Thanks!! - Karin

I have been using my fitbit for 2 months now. It is very accurate at calculating the calories burned from daily activity movement but is not accurate at estimating calories burned from exercise other than walking or running. I have compared my burn on my HRM to the fitbit and it was within 5%. So I log my exercise on MFP and let my fitbit help me keep track of my activity levels.

This exactly! If I run on the elliptical for a while I will log it here with the calories from the machine, but otherwise I use the FB to figure my TDEE.

About the tracking on both sites... if you go up to "Tools" and click "Fitbit" on here you can set it to sync the info you put her with your Fitbit account. You only need to track your food and activity here.

Thanks guys, great info! I guess like everything else, it is a learning curve and I have to play with it. I discovered that it tracks my sleeping calories without me wearing the device, thus I start my day with 400 some calories, ok - that makes sense to me!!

Track food here and activity at fit bit. They sync together if you link your accounts.

Also, I use fit bit to track my normal activities and a HRM for my vigorous exercise. I add the activity from HRM to fit bit site and it makes necessary adjustments.

No secretary needed, but a personal chef would be nice!
