I'm trying to put together a strengthening routine that I can do at home. Can't really afford to go to the gym plus I've never felt comfortable there. The problem is every time I find full body strengthening exercises, they always include squats and lunges. I have an injury to one of my knees and cannot do squats or lunges (believe me I've tried). I also have spondyliolisthesis in my back and a problem with my hip. I used to be able to do squats and lunges and I do know how effective they are. Are there any other exercises that I could do that work the same muscles as squats and lunges? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Squats and lunges are the most effective. I don't know of any other moves with the legs that do the same thing. Have you looked on pinterest or googled it? Maybe do walk at home DVDs or other DVDs that help you. I haven't stepped into a gym for at least 10 years, so there are other ways of exercising at home. You may have to ask a trainer or doctor about what other exercises for your legs you could do. I've benefited from lunges and squats tremendously. I've really toned up.

    Good Luck!

Thanx for replying. Yeah squats and lunges are great for the core and legs, so I'm kinda bummed that I can't do them. I dunno why I didn't think of googling this topic myself.lol. Has returned tons of results so I'm sure I will find some answers here. Also gonna ask my physiotherapist for some advice once I get enough cash to go see him again. Thanx again!

Do you have resistance bands? You can do a lot with bands that will work your hips and thighs.
