Pick up fresh fruits/veggies as they are in season. It's cheaper that way. Your diet will vary greatly throughout the year with this, be warned.
Meat from a butcher is cheaper than prepackaged, if you're watching for deals and sales.
Bulk for beans/legumes/grains
AND STORE BRANDS for the processed stuff, if you have to have it for something. Cream of Mushroom soup, for example, store brand can be up to a dollar less a can. If you're eating soup, you might note the difference, but a lot of foods include cream of mushroom soup, and if it's a part of something, you don't notice the difference. That's not the most healthy example... But canned beans for homemade chili.. same thing.. store brand. Or tomato sauce/paste.0
