I have to have surgery for Morton's Neuroma :(

If you are not familiar with Morton's Neuroma, it's a swollen/damaged nerve in the foot, between the middle toes. I developed it about a year ago, when I was running A LOT, and when I had originally lost weight. I had bad feet already, thanks to 10 years of competitive gymnastics, but never thought much about footwear (gymnasts don't wear shoes!). The neuroma developed because I over-pronate my feet when running and my shoes didn't have the proper support. After the neuroma showed up, I had to take a break from activity and get cortisone shots in my feet (yep, I was a lucky person who had it in BOTH feet). I got kind of depressed from my injuries and put weight back on....
After several months, the shots helped 1 foot A LOT, but my other foot still gave me some problems. I decided that I could tolerate the pain and picked back up on full-impact exercise so I could work on getting the weight back off... But, it's clear that my foot needs to be treated, and I really don't want to damage it more.
So, I went back to the Podiatrist and I get to schedule surgery to have the neuroma removed. He said that if the shots I already had didn't cut it, it's unlikely more shots are going to help much more. So, instead of just injecting more and more cortisone, I am opting for surgery to remove the damaged nerve. At least it's only 1 foot...
The moral to this story, if you take up running BE SURE TO WEAR THE RIGHT SHOES!
Anyhow, has anyone else here had Neuroma problems or had the surgery? I'm thinking that I will be doing a lot of mat pilates after surgery, but if you have other exercise ideas, I'm all ears Surgery is weeks away though and I'm hoping that I can lose another 5-10 pounds by then...
