Caffeine: What does it do to you?

It keeps me wide awake all night long. If I drink too much of it over a couple of days, I will (once I do get to sleep...LOL_ wake up in the middle of the night with my heart racing. Then I certainly can't get to sleep.
I pretty much only make my coffee at home now from my Kurig machine to ensure that I only get decaf. I've been decaf now since the middle of college.
The only time I even venture into the caffeine world is when I crave horrible one of those horrible for you iced coffees from 7-11. :-) And I will pay for it later. So NO more of those for me, like ever!!0 -
great question. Interesting to read how it affects people differently. I love it BUT it keeps me awake at night and I already have a hard time falling asleep - I'm a night owl in an early bird world. If i drink it to get going in the morning, then I need to drink it the next day to get going because I didn't get enough sleep - vicious cycle. After awhile, i need more caffeine to get the same results. I tried 5 hour energy and love that but even the smallest amount keeps me up all night. Wish I could handle it cuz I do like the energy buzz but price to high for me to pay - which i'm learning to accept.0

I have been addicted to good coffee for a long time. I have 2-3 cups in the morning, and some times maybe another 2-3 cups through out the day and evening. It doesn't keep me awake, but if I have too much it will make me sleepy. I amazed an old supervisor...we were at a quarterly meeting and he kept bringing me black coffee to make sure I stayed awake. I drank it all, and kept dozing off during the afternoon presentations! He resorted to snapping my leg with a rubber band under the table. The next day I told him no more coffee and I stayed awake the entire time.
I do know from experience that when a migraine hits fast and hard I HAVE to have the caffeine. 2 Excedrin Migraine tablets chased down with a triple shot latte, 1 Dramamine tablet chased with a large glass of water, and 2-3 oz of dark chocolate. As long as I wear my sun glasses I can go about my normal day without too much of an issue.
I did freak out a nurse once...I went in for some blood work and stress test after fasting (it was 14 hours by the time they saw me)....nothing but plain water. My blood pressure was really low (normal for me but they didn't know that). 1. I had nothing in my system. 2. I had dozed off in the waiting room. 3. They left me in the exam room long enough I was half asleep when they took the pressure and drew blood. They almost didn't do the stress test, dang near sent me to the ER. I told them that I ran a little low anyway and hadn't had my quart of coffee yet. They called my regular doctor and confirmed.0
